Jun Hwi, with his exceptional looks and skills, was in a position where he didn’t need to worry about others’ opinions, and indeed, he lived that way. Yeon Woo, however, who had led a more ordinary life, didn’t feel the same.

To her, the prospect of their secret relationship becoming a topic of gossip was a significant concern. Moreover, the idea of being the secretary in a relationship with her boss was likely to invite scornful judgments from others.

Yoon Ji Woo once said something along those lines, labeling her as a secretary who had successfully snagged a successful man. That was the general perception.

Despite starting the relationship purely out of love for Jun Hwi, Yeon Woo, who faced reality more often than he did, couldn’t completely let go of her worries.

How could she explain to him the weight of her hesitation, even over something as simple as going on a trip together?

“What’s making you hesitate?”

Jun Hwi’s face began to darken as he observed Yeon Woo’s indecision. Just as he was about to say something more, thankfully, the phone rang. Yeon Woo, still under his watchful gaze, picked up the phone, hiding her embarrassment with a smile and went back to her desk, secretly relieved by the timely interruption.

Even after the meeting, C Pharmaceutical maintained an ambiguous stance on the contract termination, still “considering” it. But Jun Hwi was too busy with other commitments to focus solely on C Pharmaceutical.

Likewise, Yeon Woo had been busily tackling a stream of incoming work, putting C Pharmaceutical out of her mind.

That day was another routine day, with the office filled only with the sound of typing. A call came for Yeon Woo, which the recently trained new assistant, Soo Jin, picked up. She then cautiously called over to Yeon Woo, who was engrossed in her work.

“Assistant Manager Kim, there’s a call from C Pharmaceutical, and they’re asking for you specifically.”

“Me? Not Lawyer Kwon?”

“Yes, they specifically asked for ‘Assistant Manager Kim Yeon Woo.'”

Yeon Woo had never experienced a client specifically asking for her, by name, since she joined the firm.

She shook her head in disbelief and took the call.

“This is Assistant Manager Kim Yeon Woo from Roan & Yul. How can I help you?”

“I’m calling from C Pharmaceutical. I wanted to ask if you would consider a transfer to our secretarial team.”

Surprised by the offer, Yeon Woo couldn’t help but respond a bit rudely, “Me? Why?”

The secretary team leader at C Pharmaceutical explained that their vice president, Park Hyun Soo, had suggested scouting her, offering to double her current salary.

Yeon Woo thought to herself that such an offer would have been more tempting in January. Back then, she might have left Roan & Yul without a second thought and pledged loyalty to C Pharmaceutical.

But now, she was too far along a different path.

“No, I’m not considering a job change,” Yeon Woo replied firmly, to the apparent surprise of the secretary team leader.
“Apparently, our team has an excellent work environment. Since you’re experienced, we can adjust your duties to your preferences.”

That’s impossible. With Park Hyun Soo as the vice president, any work environment would be the worst for Yeon Woo.

“I have no such considerations, so I’d appreciate it if you stopped contacting me about this.”

Even after firmly ending the call, irritation surged. Why bother her with such an absurd matter when she was busy?

However, this annoyance paled in comparison to an incident a few days later.

When the scouting call had almost been forgotten, another call came from C Pharmaceutical.

“What? Vice President Park is coming here, to Roan & Yul, in 5 minutes?”

The new assistant stuttered the news, sending a look of distress towards Yeon Woo.

Yeon Woo hastily took the phone. “I’m sorry, but Attorney Kwon Jun Hwi is currently unavailable due to a court schedule.”

“It’s me. Park Hyun Soo.”

“Oh…”

“Something’s come up regarding our contract with Roan & Yul. Let’s talk in person.”

And then the call was abruptly disconnected.

What kind of person does this? Don’t they teach phone etiquette in an MBA?

As much as she had to be obsequious in the situation, this was not acceptable!

She felt her fighting spirit rising in the face of such unreasonable behavior.

But as a senior mentor, she knew she had to maintain her composure. So, Yeon Woo secretly clenched her fist in frustration.

“Is this place a local senior center? If you’re bored, just come out for a walk.”

In the pantry, Attorney Yang bluntly commented as Yeon Woo prepared coffee for the unexpected guest who had arrived exactly 5 minutes after the call.

“Yeah, really.”

“C Pharmaceutical’s vice president has a reputation for being a jerk, and it seems to be true. Just call Lawyer Kwon. Tell him to come and handle this.”

“He’s actually on his way from the courthouse now.”

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
