“Time has passed so quickly…”
The darkness had already enveloped the world outside the window.
Yeon Woo stretched languidly, waking up from her nap on the living room sofa, realizing a day of the weekend spent entirely at his place was drawing to a close.
“It’s way past dinner time. Did you skip your meal too?”
Realizing Jun Hwi might have missed dinner because of her napping, Yeon Woo felt guilty. She knocked on his study door and peeked inside.
“Sorry, I think I dozed off! I was trying to stay awake until you finished, really.”
Seeing her, Jun Hwi relaxed his usually rigid posture, taking off his glasses and pressing the inner corners of his eyes, looking weary.
“What are you talking about? You were sound asleep.”
“Hey, I did not!”
“You even snored a bit.”
“Ugh, I should just go home. I’m too embarrassed.”
Where do you think you’re going? Jun Hwi chuckled, pulled her by the arm, and sat her on his lap. She complied, albeit feigning reluctance.
“I hate C Pharmaceuticals. They didn’t let you rest even on the weekend.”
“Tell me about it.”
“What about dinner? Should I make something simple?”
“There’s something more urgent than dinner.”
This needs to be eaten first. Jun Hwi gently lifted Yeon Woo’s chin and covered her plump lips with his in a swift motion.
“Tasty.”
Pulling away, Jun Hwi murmured slowly. Yeon Woo giggled and playfully punched his chest.
“Let’s work, concentrate. We need to conquer C Pharmaceuticals! No, I mean, we need to win them over.”
“It’s not that hard a problem. It’ll be resolved in the end. I’m confident about that.”
“Oh, the best lawyer strikes again!”
Jun Hwi pressed his lips to hers again briefly, then smiled slyly.
“I’ve already conquered the hardest thing in the world.”
He then firmly gripped Yeon Woo’s hand in his.
“…This.”
His soft lips touched and then left Yeon Woo’s hand, moving progressively up her arm, shoulder, and finally lingering on the left side of her neck with a sticky sensation.
“Mm, it tickles.”
Hot breath escaped between Yeon Woo’s lips. Her whole body became taut under the warmth of his hand trailing down her back, her heart racing uncontrollably.
“You said you still had a lot of work left.”
Jun Hwi released her cheek from his intense kiss and exhaled deeply.
“That’s why. We have a lot of work, so let’s hurry.”
The tender look in his eyes vanished, replaced by a thirst that came on suddenly, changing the atmosphere entirely.
In such moments, this impetuous man never backs down.
A chuckling Yeon Woo tried to adjust her position on his lap.
That’s when her eyes inadvertently caught the laptop screen on the desk.
“…!”
It was an unbelievable sight. She almost screamed.
Yeon Woo had to desperately restrain herself.
On Jun Hwi’s screen was the information about the newly ousted executives of C Pharmaceuticals.
And there, capturing her attention, was a familiar face.
The photo of that man, brazenly placed under the title of ‘Vice President’ in the organizational chart.
That, that 50,000 won man from the subway!
“Wait, wait a minute!”
Yeon Woo exclaimed in shock. Jun Hwi, who had undressed without her noticing, looked at her quizzically.
“Let’s get the work done first! Ha, ha.”
“Are you serious?”
“Ah, I keep distracting you from work, um.”
“…”
“So, let’s finish it all up first, okay? Thoroughly and with full focus!”
Did I say too much in my haste? His gaze grew heavier. Although there seemed to be some miscommunication, it wasn’t the issue at hand.
“Um, do you want to take a shower? I think we need to cool down for now!”
“Harsh, Kim Yeon Woo.”
“Come on, hurry up.”
Was I correct in what I saw? Yeon Woo desperately wanted to recheck the screen.
She made up an excuse and pushed Jun Hwi’s bulky back out of the study.
Once he left, she hurried back to the desk and pulled the laptop closer.
[Hyun Soo Park, Vice President – The chairman’s second son. Recently returned from the U.S. after completing his MBA at UC Oakley. A powerful figure in the group and a leading candidate for the next chairman]“Ughhhhh!”
Yeon Woo held her head in her hands and silently screamed.
Unbelievable! He was really the vice president?
The original vice president was definitely not him; when did it change?
It made sense now. He had a black card!
That scam artist, no, the vice president, was Jun Hwi’s important client.
Yeon Woo quickly revisited what she had said that day.
‘Such wickedness in deceiving others will bring you punishment.’
‘Aaah! Don’t come any closer, scam artist!’
Every word she remembered was striking.
If asked to repeat those words in front of the vice president, she couldn’t.
Especially the part where she made him seem like a weirdo to the subway staff and got him dragged away.
But Yeon Woo had her reasons! He blatantly asked for money like a con artist, naturally……!
‘And even when he revealed himself as the vice president, I didn’t believe him.’
Sighing deeply, raking through her hair didn’t change the fact that what was done was done.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
