Jackal let out a touched laugh and gently rubbed the child’s cheek with his index finger.

His blue eyes, gazing at the baby, shimmered with emotion and wonder.

Seeing him unable to tear his loving gaze away from the infant for a long while, Asha spoke.

“You know what? Melissa smells like flowers—like hyacinths.”

At her words, Jackal suddenly realized anew that this child had inherited the blood of the Butterfly and carried within her the Spirit of the Flower.

And not only that—she bore his own surname, and thus emitted the scent of hyacinths…

Though he himself couldn’t smell it—being no Butterfly—he pressed his nose against the baby and took a deep breath.

From the newborn came a scent both oceanic and comforting.

Seeing this, Asha suddenly looked startled and asked,

“Mr. Jackal, are you all right? Now that I think of it… I remember you have a pollen allergy…”

Jackal, reminded by her words, widened his eyes in realization.

Before, even just being near Karaf had made him sneeze and runny-nosed—but now he felt perfectly fine.

“I think I’m okay. Ever since I met that flower-boy at the imperial palace last time, strangely enough, I haven’t reacted at all even when there are flowers around.”

Asha was astonished.

Perhaps the moment Karaf’s curse had broken and he bloomed, Jackal’s pollen allergy had vanished as well.
