I couldn’t concentrate at all during class. Unable to forget Kirian’s awkward gaze, I kept stealing glances at his face instead of paying attention to the lesson.

As if he’d decided to act now, Kirian merely flashed me a faint smile every time he caught me looking.

Eventually, the moment class ended, I grabbed Kirian and said,

“Let’s go eat dinner.”

If we ate together—even just a meal—I might learn something. While waiting for Kirian’s reply, I busily planned the barrage of questions I’d unleash on him.

But instead of answering, Kirian shifted his gaze outside the window, where rain had just begun to fall.

“I don’t think I can eat with you today.”

“Why? Do you have somewhere to go?”

At my question, Kirian stretched his lips into a long smirk, took off his jacket, and draped it over my head. In the sudden darkness, only Kirian’s voice echoed, accompanied by a cool minty scent.

“Take the jacket—it’s raining.”

By the time I pushed the jacket aside, Kirian was already gone.

On a faint hope, I dashed out of the building—but perhaps it was foolish of me even to think I could catch up to Kirian with my own steps.

Standing in the steadily falling rain, I blankly stared at the courtyard where other students hurried about, seeking shelter.

Was he really hiding something from me?

Just then, the cold rain that had been soaking my head abruptly stopped, making the jacket in my hand seem pointless.
