“A monster that rides lightning?”

I met Hith in the library lobby to discuss our strategy.

“Yes. Every rainy season, the damage caused by Elding is considerable.”

Elding was yet another monster I’d never heard of before. If I’d known this would happen, I should’ve stolen Kirian’s monster encyclopedia instead of reading romance novels.

As if he’d read my mind, Hith handed me a thick book—it was the very monster encyclopedia Kirian always pulled out whenever I was reading romance novels in the library.

I’d occasionally mutter, “That looks interesting,” while glancing over his shoulder, only to always find horrifying illustrations of monsters spread across the pages.

“Please refer to this.”

Hith kindly flipped open the book to the section featuring Elding.

“Ugh. How many teeth does it have?”

Elding’s mouth, resembling Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, was filled with enormous teeth like rusty blades.

Its bulging eyes were bloodshot and crimson, and its bluish skin hung heavily in deep wrinkles.

“The monster itself isn’t particularly threatening.”

Hith pointed to Elding’s blue hide.

“It’s not covered in scales, so it’s easier to pierce than it appears. It’s only about the size of an adult man. The real problem is that it’s hard to predict where it’ll appear.”

I quickly skimmed through the encyclopedia.
