I couldn’t understand what had happened in that moment.
Had Hiss betrayed me? He was a person more honest and upright than anyone I knew, so the fact that he had joined forces with Viscount Magine was unbelievable.
“Hiss.”
I called Hiss again, but there was no response.
“It’s useless. He only follows my commands.”
Only then did I notice the rigid expression, the cold gaze, and the somewhat awkward movements. It felt like I was looking at an empty shell of Hiss.
“Gasp.”
A ominous premonition caused me to gasp for breath. Magine Viscount must have done something to Hiss.
My insides twisted, and a massive rock seemed to press down on my chest.
It was all because of me. Hiss had ended up like this because of me. Even though he had promised to protect me, my actions had made Hiss a target.
I bit my lip, and a bitter taste of blood spread in my mouth.
It was unbelievable, or rather, I didn’t want to believe it. So, once again, I forced a strained voice from my tightly closed throat.
“Hiss, snap out of it.”
However, Hiss remained silent.
“It’s futile.”
Viscount Magine chuckled lightly.
“It’s a spell perfected over several years, gathered with magical power.”
Then, she sighed lightly.
“Originally, I intended to cast it on Kyrin, but it seems killing him wouldn’t work.”
“Killing him…?”
Viscount Magine nodded.
“I thought I would succeed if I killed you. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.”
Only then did everything start to make sense.
Contrary to Esmeralda’s words, Viscount was not satisfied with the position of the next Countess.
As with Hiss, Viscount wanted to control the next Istira Countess perfectly.
Viscount Magine blinked her eyes and caressed the magical book with one hand.
“Still, you’re not entirely useless.”
She smiled provocatively.
“Stop with the pathetic excuses and just hand over the magical book to Hiss.”
Viscount Magine’s lips twisted into a scornful smile.
“Stupid.”
It was a statement I couldn’t deny.
But Viscount Magine didn’t bring me here just to mock me. If she already had the magical book in her hands, and the answers were written in it, then someone like me was unnecessary.
“Don’t beat around the bush. Tell me straight. What do you want?”
Viscount Magine hesitated. Her smile, as she slowly opened her mouth, became slightly fainter. As if it wasn’t so easy to speak.
“You didn’t say it. You need to explain the magical book.”
I smirked.
“Explain…?”
Tilting my head, I put on an innocent expression.
“What do you want me to explain?”
As Viscount Magine’s expression became more menacing, I looked even more foolish.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. If you want an explanation, it should all be written in that magical book, shouldn’t it?”
I sighed.
“I wrote it in such detail that even a fool could understand, just in case I might forget the solution.”
Viscount Magine clenched her fist reflexively. It was childish, but as Viscount’s face flushed, the oppressive feeling in her chest seemed to ease a bit.
However, that feeling didn’t last long.
“You insolent girl.”
A disdainful voice echoed in my ears. Viscount Magine gestured to Hiss.
“Hiss, help her regain her senses.”
Hiss raised his hand and mechanically approached me. His face, once as stiff as a stone, and the cool smile that always lingered on his lips were now gone without a trace.
The sight was painfully heartbreaking, and like a child unable to look away from a horror movie, I just stared blankly at the approaching Hiss.
As Hiss came right next to me, I closed my eyes tightly. However, instead of the expected pain, I heard the sound of paper fluttering.
When I opened my eyes slightly, I saw Hiss holding out a piece of paper with an expressionless face. Viscount Magine gestured to the paper.
“Read it.”
Even without Viscount Magine’s prompting, the large letters stamped at the top of the paper caught my eye.
Arrest Warrant.
“No way…”
“Yes.”
Viscount Magine’s voice pierced my ears.
“It’s as you think. The more you waste my time with useless jokes, the more your subordinates will suffer.”
A bitter taste filled my mouth.
“Before sending each one to the execution platform, it’s better to quickly explain the magical book.”
I hesitated for a moment.
If it was an advanced spell, even with my meager magical power, it could have a powerful effect. However, if combined with Viscount’s magic, it might grant her a power surpassing that of a Countess.
Just imagining the possible consequences was terrifying.
“Do you want me to immediately order the arrest to the security force, Hiss?”
As Viscount Magine grinned, I bit my lip carefully. Eventually, blood began to spread again around my mouth, but I didn’t feel the stinging pain of the wound.
“I’ll explain.”
I finally freed myself from the chair.
Viscount Magine kindly cut the rope with a dagger.
Since the rope was tied too tightly, angry marks remained on my wrists, but I didn’t care.
“It’s better not to think about escaping.”
Viscount Magine pointed the dagger at Hiss.
“I’ll send a scorpion to the security force right away.”

The young master had slightly reddened eyes, and his every move exuded charm.
The sight made Li Ruantang’s eyes hot and her heart flutter. After all, she had made a bet with the young master Meng from the neighboring family. If she couldn’t marry a husband before the end of the year, she would have to admit defeat and give up the jade she had worked so hard to obtain.
Outside the window, the flowers were in full bloom.
Rather than losing the bet, the jade, and her face, Li Ruantang calculated that it would be better to seek marriage with the young master in front of her, killing three birds with one stone.
…
Meng Jun never thought that an accident during a spring outing would lead to them rolling down a cliff and into a river, yet still survive.
Now they were trapped in an unknown village, and Meng Jun had overheard that the family who had rescued them had their own intentions.
After all, it was Li Ruantang who had lost her mind and sought marriage first. He was only trying to protect himself!
Glancing at Li Ruantang, who was listing her own merits, the young husband’s voice softened, and he blushed as he lied, “W-wife-master, Wife-master, don’t you remember me?”
The young husband’s voice was clear and handsome, coaxing Li Ruantang’s heart to be soft and sweet, and she spared no effort to protect him.
It wasn’t until they returned to the capital that Li Ruantang suddenly remembered.
When they had fallen off the cliff, in order not to implicate Wei Yunruo, whom he secretly admired, the young husband had instead pulled her, who was slightly farther away, down the cliff with him…
