Will the fire shoot out? Isn’t the magic book flammable? What if it burns the room?
All sorts of thoughts occupied my mind.
“Now, concentrate. Closing your eyes and visualizing the image of the spell is a method as well.”
At the math teacher’s instruction, I narrowed my brow and sorted out my thoughts. A small flame the size of a candle would be appropriate.
I closed my eyes and visualized a small flame floating in front of me. It painted a vivid picture in my mind, as if it would grab hold at any moment.
“Are you concentrating?”
I vigorously nodded my head at the math teacher’s question.
“That’s strange…….”
I frowned at the math teacher’s trailing off and opened my eyes.
A candle was flickering in front of me. I was startled for a moment, but then I spotted Eliza’s hand holding a tall candlestick and blew out the candle.
Eliza relit the candle with a match, looking quite proud.
“Don’t be too disappointed, Miss. If you want to light a candle, you can ask me. You shouldn’t rely on strange magic.”
I blew out the candle again and asked the teacher.
“Did the spell fail?”
“Yes…….”
The math teacher awkwardly trailed off again.
“Why doesn’t it work? I imagined it so vividly.”
I pressed my palm firmly against the book page in frustration, but again, nothing happened.
“That’s strange. What could be the problem? The spell’s explanation certainly isn’t wrong.”
The math teacher rubbed his chin, apparently lost in thought, rubbing hard enough that his chin turned red. His hand suddenly paused.
And his face turned pale enough that the red mark vanished in an instant.
It was a face that anyone could see he’d thought of something tremendous.
“Did you find the problem?”
“No…….”
The math teacher trailed off, surreptitiously avoiding my gaze.
“I can tell you’ve found it.”
I said with a trembling expression, and the math teacher pretended to drink tea from an empty teacup with a shaking hand.
“I won’t say anything, so please tell me.”
The math teacher hesitated for a while and then slowly opened his mouth.
“It seems you have no magical power.”
“Really?”
I tilted my head.
“Why don’t I have any magical power?”
The math teacher started to sweat profusely. My glare narrowed, and he suddenly clasped his hands together and began to speak fervently.
“I’m ssorry, Your Highness. I never meant to insult or belittle you, I just didn’t think, think…”
He trembled and stammered.
“So why don’t I have any magical power?”
“I have committed a grievous sin!”
The math teacher suddenly knelt down.
“I fforgot for a moment about Your Highness’s origin…….”
Origin? It took me a moment to grasp the meaning of the math teacher’s words.
“Ah, ah, that I’m a commoner?”
Eliza, who had been holding the extinguished candle with a somewhat gloomy expression, suddenly looked up and glared at the math teacher with a terrifying gaze.
The math teacher, who was already pale, stopped breathing like someone on the brink of fainting.
“Of course, Your Highness is flawless in elegant behavior, immeasurable in depth, and entirely noble[Dash].”
“So only nobles can use magic.”
I leaned back in my chair, feeling a little deflated.
“I thought I could do well with magic.”
I rummaged through the magic book bitterly. They were all problems I could solve in a few seconds.
I thought I could be a genius magician of the century, not wellknown to avoid trouble, but at least a local genius. But instead of being a local genius, I became a unique dunce.
The math teacher’s lips turned pale, and I quickly waved my hand.
“It’s okay. I don’t really care. It could be forgotten.”
Surrounded by all sorts of brilliant furniture in the penthouse of the top floor of the dormitory, it was enough to be mistaken.
The math teacher couldn’t take her eyes off Eliza, nodding her head with a creaking movement. It seemed as if she faintly heard Eliza cracking her finger joints.
Before long, another ominous rumor spread among the teachers.
It was a rumor that made one’s bones ache and flesh tremble, that the math teacher had been called to the duke’s house, ruthlessly shattered the dreams and hopes of the young princess, and barely escaped after all sorts of agony.
(This is a time divider.)
I finally attended class the next day to reassure Eliza, who kept saying through teary eyes that she would call Heisna, Kirian, and even the duke and duchess.
Whether I arrived too early in the classroom with a slightly nervous heart, I was the only one there.
“Is she still angry…….”
Not wanting to reveal my troubled heart unnecessarily, I arranged my notebook and writing tools more tightly than usual.
I still didn’t understand why Kirian was so angry, and I couldn’t grasp where to untangle this tangled thread.
“Princess Reina?”
Then someone called my name.
When I looked up, it was Prince Gerald of Cxia, the second. This was the first time we had spoken directly, so I was quite taken aback inside.
“Yes?”
“You must have been very surprised that I suddenly spoke to you?”
