Julian even wondered if all of this might be a dream.

After all, in her entire life, no one had ever jumped onto the table and spoken such heart-fluttering words to her before.

“If I’m to be with someone as wonderful as you, isn’t it only right that I endure that much hardship?”

“…Huh?”

“I wouldn’t mind even if assassins chased us off a cliff, forcing us to hide trembling in a cave—as long as I could be with you, Julian.”

“Why are you being so specific? It almost sounds like it actually happened!”

Julian leapt up and vigorously shook her head, as if she couldn’t even bear to imagine it.

Yet it had all truly happened. Summer briefly recalled the time she’d spent alone with Russell in that cave.

Whenever she was with Russell, she always revealed her true self completely. Hadn’t she, even then, spilled all the words she’d tightly held back, speaking them foolishly to Russell?

“It doesn’t matter if it happens again. The moment I decided I wanted to be with you—to become close to you—I already steeled myself for that much.”

“I won’t give up until I hear you say, ‘I’m so happy I wish time would stop right now.’”

Summer’s blue eyes sparkled. Julian watched her, frowning slightly in puzzlement, as if unable to understand.

“Why…? Why are you being so kind to me?”

“It’s not kindness—it’s responsibility. If I’m going to play the role of the protagonist’s friend, that much is basic.”
