Reus, feeling better, thought it wouldn’t be anything particularly special and readily agreed to talk about the library. But the words that came out of Roel’s mouth stopped his train of thought in its tracks.

“There seemed to be a passage behind the frame leading somewhere…!”

The Grand Duke Rocheter’s castle. To the young Reus, it was like the last trace of his parents.

But unbeknownst to him, the emperor had sent shadows to the grand duke’s castle, removing anything that could spark trouble and filling the empty spaces with plausible fakes.

After learning that the emperor had rummaged through the grand duke’s castle, it was impossible to hold affection for it as before.

From then on, Reus overturned every place that bore even the slightest trace of the emperor, no matter where it was.

But even then, he could not bring himself to touch the library. So he buried it along with his childhood memories, ignoring it so thoroughly that he forgot the library even existed.

Perhaps because the childhood memories were surfacing, he felt a momentary discomfort in his stomach, but Reus slowly pulled out the old memories.

Yet, because they were memories buried for so long, it took some time to even recall the appearance of the attic.

After a long while, sunlight pierced through the hazy memories as if clearing the fog, and the old memories began to reveal themselves one by one.

The sunset light quietly settling in the attic through the glass dome. The figure of his beloved mother smiling at him within it. And… the figure of his father, whom he had never forgotten for even a single moment, appeared.

His heart suddenly throbbed. Reus wanted to stop recalling the past, but once the memory became clear, it expanded uncontrollably fast.

The image of his mother lying beside him drawing pictures, and the back of his father hanging them on the wall. Countless scenes overlapped above them.

Along with emotions he couldn’t tell if they were churning or surging, the memory focused on the frame right next to where the picture was attached.

If it was a frame in the attic…
