After having dinner with Reus for the first time in a while, we decided to take a light stroll around the main estate. Since we rarely showed affection or physical intimacy, we thought this would at least demonstrate that our relationship was still intact.

I’d been worried whether something so trivial would truly suffice, but strangely enough, it worked exceptionally well with the people of the Grand Duke’s estate.

According to Dwin, before I arrived here, Reus had apparently spent his days holed up in his office.

[“A stroll? Of course, that was utterly unimaginable. His Highness hasn’t even set foot in the western garden for quite some time.”]

So deeply ingrained was their astonishment that merely sharing the same bedroom—even without deliberately making time to appear together—was enough to leave the servants marveling.

No wonder everyone was so easily deceived by this small act.

‘No, actually… now that I think about it, Reus really was born with exceptional acting talent.’

Whenever there were onlookers, Reus played the devoted husband perfectly.

Perhaps because his usual expression was so devoid of smiles, even the faintest hint of one made the butler look at him with obvious satisfaction.

‘Truthfully, he’s worse than a stranger to me.’

In fact, I was far more accustomed to Reus’s expressionless face. No sooner had the thought crossed my mind than Reus looked at me with that very familiar, ever-neutral expression.

“I have something to tell you.”

It had been so long since he’d spoken with genuine purpose rather than empty words for show that I waited seriously for what would come next.

But what slipped from Reus’s lips was utterly implausible.

“I’ve received orders to depart for war.”
