After my conversation with Teron, I decided to stop avoiding Reus. It felt wrong to make him suffer more because of my own guilt.

But when I actually tried to approach him, it wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped. Not only was it hard to start the conversation myself, but Reus kept slipping away before I could say anything—and whenever our eyes met, he’d quickly look away, leaving me no opening at all.

His desperate attempts to keep his promise to me broke my heart. Teron’s words came back to me again: “Reus isn’t to blame at all.”

‘I have to talk to him again today, no matter what.’

Just as I was resolving to gently initiate a conversation—even in the bedroom—and refocusing on my duties, I heard a knock, followed soon after by Dwin’s voice.

“Your Highness, it’s Dwin. May I come in?”

“Yes, Dwin. Come in.”

The door opened shortly after, and Dwin entered my office. Lately, with things strained between Reus and me, Milly had been the only one visiting my office, so seeing Dwin felt like it had been ages.

“What brings you here, Dwin?”

“I have something I’d like to say to Your Highness.”

I’d assumed he’d come on official business, but apparently not. Sensing this wasn’t something to discuss while seated at my desk, I moved to the sofa.

“What is it, then?”

“Well…this might sound presumptuous, but I have a request, Your Highness.”

“A request?”

Dwin looked as though he’d made a huge decision before finally speaking up with difficulty.
