I contracted a marriage with the villain to safely escape my family. But it all ends today.
‘Finally, I’m leaving the original story.’
As I recall the hardships I endured, a surge of emotion overwhelms me, but I soon regain my composure.
I can fully enjoy the happiness once I reach the resort.
In Belliata, where my new life will begin!
‘Let’s leave before it’s too late.’
I pick up my luggage from the floor and head towards the stairs.
But I notice a faint figure near the railing. Soon, I recognize who it is.
“……Leuys?”
Emerging from the darkness, the figure was Leuys Rochter, the main villain of this novel and the man I had a contract marriage with.

I thought I might not get to say goodbye since I hadn’t seen him all day, but luckily, I ran into him just in time.
“You must have finished work late today.”
“I was delayed by some urgent matters.”
Leuys said this and then fixed his gaze on me. More precisely, on the luggage in my hands.
“Leuys?”
He was just staring at the luggage until I called his name, then turned his eyes to me, his gaze softening.
“The luggage looks heavy.”
“Oh, this? It’s not as heavy as it looks. I only packed light things.”
“Is that so?”
I only needed to withdraw money from the bank, and anything else I needed could be bought upon arrival in Belliata.

I smiled reassuringly and adjusted my grip on the luggage.
Then, I hesitated for a moment, wanting to thank Leuys for everything. It was the last time, after all.
I chose simple words to express my genuine feelings.
“Thank you… for everything.”
It was a brief thank-you, but from Leuys’ reaction, it seemed he understood my sincerity.
There was a moment of silence between us.
I smiled awkwardly and walked past Leuys.
But then.
“You should put down the luggage and go to bed, Roel.”
His words stopped me in my tracks before I could take a few steps.

‘What does he mean…?’
Surely, Leuys knows where I’m headed?
I had always talked about leaving for Belliata with a new identity, a plan I had been discussing since we entered into the contract and throughout its duration.
‘He must have forgotten. Well, it’s just a contract relationship, after all.’
Leuys always seemed disinterested or bored whenever I brought up Belliata.
But I thought I should explain one last time.
“Leuys. You seem to have forgotten, but today’s the day. The day I’ve always talked about, leaving for Belliata.”
While I spoke, Leuys came closer, gave a slight smile, then took the luggage from my hands.
“I know.”
“Today… what? You know?”
His unexpected response surprised me. Leuys then added,
“There will be no ship today due to the circumstances. There’s no need to exert yourself unnecessarily.”
No ship? That can’t be.
I was sure of the departure time. I had checked and double-checked after getting the ticket. Then, a plausible explanation crossed my mind.
“Ah.”
The strong winds today must have led to the cancellation of the ship.
I nodded a couple of times to show I understood.
“When is the next ship scheduled to depart?”
If he knew about the cancellation, he might also know when the next ship was. But Leuys didn’t answer my question.
He just kept smiling.

‘Why does this feel ominous?’
When Leuys smiles like that, things usually don’t end well.
After a moment of intense eye contact, Leuys finally spoke.
“I haven’t said it.”
“Said what…?”
“Leuys, explain to me properly what’s going on before I decide to return.”
Despite my firm stance, Leuys looked perplexed. But realizing I was adamant, he soon opened his mouth.
“Just like I said. There will be no ship at the harbor if you go now.”
“But that means it’s been canceled. If you heard about the cancellation, you must know when the next ship is, like the time or date… something like that.”
“There are no ships scheduled for the near future that I can inform you about.”
He knew today was the day I had longed for. Yet, he was overly relaxed.

A creeping unease made me anxious.
“So, if there’s nothing in the near future, that’s unfortunate. What about after that…?”
Leuys’ expression brightened as if he had been waiting for that question.
“None.”
“What…?”
My dumbfounded response was due to Leuys’ expression, which seemed to say he had arranged for the ships to Belliata to be canceled.
‘No, that can’t be. He wouldn’t do that.’
Leuys wouldn’t do such a thing. He said he genuinely wanted to help me.
‘Right. I’m overreacting because the plan has gone awry. Leuys wouldn’t do that to me…’
Then, a large hand cupped my cheek. Leuys gently lifted my head to look at him and softly spoke.

“I did it.”
As if he had read my mind.
“Roel. There won’t be any ships going to Belliata.”
“…”
“Ever.”
Leuys caressed my cheek as he continued.
“In case you held any false hope.”
The cruel words came from a villain’s face that looked happier than I had ever seen.
I am a side character trying to escape the original story.
It’s been four years since I got engaged to my fiancé… no, the male lead, Casien Ersian.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
