Dwayne wore an inscrutable smile on his lips. Then, in a low voice, he murmured,

“Perhaps your choice wasn’t so bad after all.”

Eustia blinked silently. She couldn’t readily understand what he meant by that. But she knew better than to expect an explanation from Dwayne.

He turned his back without a shred of hesitation, as if he had no further business with her. It was a gesture far too familiar to Eustia.

Though deeply curious about Dwayne’s words, she didn’t stop him. Better to remain slightly puzzled than risk hearing some harsh retort if she pressed him.

With that thought, she reached for her teacup to finish the remaining tea. Precisely at that moment, Dwayne’s muttering voice pierced Eustia’s eardrums mercilessly as he stepped out of the drawing room.

“It’s truly fortunate he doesn’t resemble his mother.”

Eustia’s face instinctively turned toward Duke Dwayne. But by then, he had already vanished, and the drawing room door remained shut just as it had been before.

“Fortunate… not to resemble me?”

Eustia chewed over Dwayne’s words. There was only one person who could refer to her as “his mother”: Liurian Petrov. Could it be that Liu had said it was fortunate not to resemble her?

Eustia felt momentarily bewildered. Yet there was no one left who could soothe her confusion.

Ibelia sat before the table, staring intently at something. Pailin, passing by just then, asked her,

“Your Highness, why have you been gazing so fixedly at that cherry blossom branch for the past few days?”

“Well… there’s something I need to remember.”

“Something you need to remember?”
