“My lady, that’s…”

Ibelia bit her lower lip, her face flushed with deep embarrassment. Her flickering eyes fully revealed her inner discomfort.

Noticing her state, Lady Nolton hastily added more words.

“I’m truly sorry, Your Highness. My father often scolds me for not considering the weight of my words, and yet I’ve dared act so carelessly before you. It wasn’t meant ill—I beg your generous forgiveness.”

Lady Nolton bowed her head nearly into the table as she apologized. It was an overly stiff apology.

Ibelia quickly reached out toward Lady Nolton. Though Lellia’s mention had been uncomfortable, she certainly hadn’t wanted such an apology.

“No, my lady. My feelings aren’t hurt that deeply—please don’t worry.”

“Your Highness…”

“I only wished to finally enjoy the pleasant time with you that we missed yesterday.”

At the end of her sentence, Ibelia softened her expression with a gentle smile. Only then did Lady Nolton’s rigid expression seem to ease slightly.

Ibelia offered her tea once more.

“It’s a tea I usually enjoy, though I’m not sure if it will suit your taste.”

“The fragrance is wonderful already, and I can tell the flavor must be excellent too. Thank you for sharing such a precious tea with me, Your Highness.”

It was the most pleasing thing one could say. Yet Ibelia couldn’t shake off the subtle tension creeping in.

Perhaps because it was her first time receiving a guest, every tiny detail weighed heavily on her mind.
