Lellia stepped out of the Crown Princess’s palace with a dazed, half-absent expression. The maids who spotted her bowed politely, but Lellia couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge any of their greetings.

Her mind simply wouldn’t settle. It was because Ibelia’s image filled her thoughts completely. More precisely, it was Ibelia’s voice—overheard just outside the reception room—that had utterly shaken Lellia’s spirit.

[Caliph has always done his very best for me, hasn’t he? Even risking his life without hesitation. So I thought it only right that I do the same.]

Caliph. That utterly unfamiliar name had slipped through the door several times, carried by Ibelia’s voice.

Had she heard the name “Caliph” for the first time just now outside the reception room, she wouldn’t have been so thoroughly bewildered.

Lellia once again recalled yesterday’s memory, which had suddenly resurfaced.

After meeting Eustia late in the evening, she’d wandered the imperial palace with a hollow heart—only to unexpectedly spot Liurian.

He was walking briskly toward somewhere. His face was shadowed and his jaw set tight, as if lost in deep thought.

Because of that, he failed to notice her despite their proximity, and Lellia followed him as if entranced.

He walked swiftly without the slightest pause. Keeping up with his pace was quite taxing, yet Lellia trailed after him like someone out of her mind.

He finally stopped right before the entrance to the Crown Princess’s garden. Liurian strode boldly through the garden, where flowers bloomed in dazzling abundance. His steps toward Ibelia showed not a trace of hesitation.

In the past, seeing him head toward Ibelia would have shattered her heart—but now, Lellia wasn’t even surprised. Only a faint ache stirred in her chest.

Though her mind refused to accept it at any cost, her heart seemed to have already come to terms with the truth. An indescribable bitterness washed over her, but Lellia bit her lip firmly and resumed walking.
