Khalif spat out the words forcefully. Felix, who had been absent-minded all along, abruptly opened his eyes and spoke sharply.
“You can’t mistake an energy you have to be hypersensitive to sense. Feeling that energy is not a delusion. It’s something I’ve only sensed once in hundreds of years, starting from when those creatures began to infest the Tritan Kingdom.”
It was an extremely firm assertion. Therefore, Khalif couldn’t find anything more to say.
The atmosphere in the bedroom chilled instantly. Amid the heavy silence, not a single person found it easy to speak, and after a while, Felix hesitated and spoke with reluctance.
“…There’s something I haven’t told you.”
“Huh, surprising that there’s more to hear here.”
Although Khalif spoke mockingly, his gaze squarely met Felix’s. Felix sighed deeply as if beckoning him to speak.
“It seems like Evelia has an unusual ability.”
“What?”
Khalif’s brow, which had been nowhere near as distorted when he heard stories related to spirits, now contorted terribly.
“What are you talking about? Evelia having an ability?”
“…To be precise, I don’t know either.”
“But why do you say she has an ability? What evidence do you have?”
“I’m certain she has an ability. It’s just that I can’t find the right words to define that ability.”
Khalif furrowed his brow in frustration. Images of every moment he had regressed into his mind rushed forth. The painful emotions that accompanied those moments were vividly recalled each time.
Felix had referred to his infinite regression as an incredible ability. Although he knew it was said in a mocking or playful manner, from Khalif’s perspective, the worry about whether Evelia possessed such a dreadful ability, accompanied by the same agonizing pain, couldn’t be dismissed.
“Then explain. What kind of ability is it?”
Khalif asked anxiously. Felix, who briefly glanced at him, let out an even heavier sigh. It was clear he had read Khalif’s inner thoughts.
“I don’t know the exact details yet.”
“Then what does she have!”
“But.”
Khalif, unable to control the surging emotions, shouted impatiently. Cutting off his intense anger, Felix firmly spoke.
“But, there was a time when she unknowingly absorbed my power. Shortly after, she returned it to me with a tremendous force that could easily match the power she absorbed.”
“What? Does that make sense?”
“I also can’t believe it, so I haven’t done anything to investigate the phenomenon.”
Felix, at the end of his words, glanced at Khalif once and then slowly scanned the messy stack of books on and under the table. Khalif, following his gaze, asked incredulously.
“Are you telling me you’ve been reading books for days just to find out about this?”
“Yeah. I’m only saying this now, but that’s why I kept going to see Evelia even though I hated it. Initially, I wanted to verify the phenomenon because I couldn’t believe it. Then, I couldn’t find any information about it in the books. So, I thought if I talked to Evelia, I might get some hints.”
Khalif looked at Felix with desperate eyes. It was the first time Khalif didn’t show annoyance, even though Evelia’s story came out of Felix’s mouth. Khalif was in such a desperate state. However, Felix ruthlessly crushed his hopes.
“No, nothing.”
At his resolute response, Khalif could only close his eyes tightly. His heart raced uneasily. He couldn’t understand why Evelia’s story was brought up after mentioning the appearance of a spirit.
However, instinctively, his mind, which had started to calculate the situation, was sending signals to him, finding an answer.
It seemed that Felix didn’t consider the appearance of the spirit and Evelia’s alleged ability as separate events.
Khalif had only heard stories about the spirit from Felix, so he had no idea how powerful this entity could be. However, if it had the power to destroy a kingdom, it was undoubtedly not an opponent to be taken lightly.
But talking about such an adversary while mentioning Evelia, Khalif couldn’t shake off his unease.
His anxiety reached its peak. At that moment, Felix looked at Khalif with meaningful eyes.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
