Sorry, the Patricidal Tyrant Seems Beastly (1 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
Charlotte moistened her throat with whiskey.
The whiskey stung as it scraped down her throat. The lukewarm liquor cleansed her esophagus, and her head grew hazy.
Charlotte had just stepped outside to get some fresh air.
As she walked along the path, the cold wind lashed against her skin.
She took a sip of whiskey and set the empty glass down.
With her hands clasped behind her back, she shook the empty glass upside down, and the air striking the glass seemed to emit a faint ringing sound.
‘You don’t realize how precious your body is. Charles, Charles, my child.’
It was something her birth mother occasionally chided her with.
“Save your nagging.”
Charlotte stood blankly, gazing up at the empty sky.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had such strong liquor.”
I myself learned to drink as late as possible.
Please understand my situation—I died and woke up back in the past.
Charlotte thus brushed off her mother’s nagging with practiced ease.
“When I drink, my head gets hazy, and at least in this moment, I feel at ease.”
That meant, of course, that her life right now was anything but comfortable.
After a long while, Charlotte finally resumed walking.
Though her steps seemed unsteady, her posture remained perfectly upright.
“Charlotte?”
A leisurely voice called out to her.
It was alluring yet sticky.
Charlotte, who had been walking along the outdoor path, stopped in her tracks.
Beneath her feet, lights had been set into the ground to illuminate the night path.
Under the bright moonlight, a familiar figure emerged.
Charlotte tilted her head slightly.
“Why are you out here, Charlotte?”
Benjamin stood at the side of the path, hands clasped behind his back.
His gentle voice murmured softly.
“I just wanted some fresh air.”
“I told you to drink moderately. You reek of alcohol…”
Benjamin stepped forward and stood before Charlotte.
“Why are you alone out here?”
“Perhaps because I wished for your day to be peaceful?”
It had been an exceptionally quiet day.
The banquet hall’s atmosphere had grown thick, and Charlotte was thoroughly soaked in the effects of alcohol.
“Did you have fun?”
“In my own way, yes.”
“Then that’s enough.”
Her body felt sluggish. As Charlotte exhaled a stifled breath, Benjamin asked with a faint smile.
“Are you acting like this because I left you alone?”
“Why?”
“Why are you being so careless?”
Benjamin kept his right hand clasped behind his back while using his left to tidy Charlotte’s tousled hair.
Charlotte stared blankly up at him, and Benjamin lowered his gaze to meet her eyes.
“Why?”
Benjamin asked softly.
“I was curious what you were doing alone out here.”
Benjamin was a man clad entirely in black. He murmured quietly.
“Just a moment.”
Pitch-black darkness draped itself behind him—and then swallowed him whole.

Benjamin turned and thrust his sword deep.
“Guh—gkk!” A death rattle echoed, followed by a wet, tearing sound.
Was it darkness? A shadow? Something lay beneath their feet…
“It writhes like a worm.”
Benjamin muttered indifferently, his tone flat and utterly devoid of regret.
Raw killing intent radiated from Benjamin.
Like fangs,
Benjamin was like a viper.
His venomous teeth crunched and devoured whatever prey came within reach.
As Benjamin sheathed his blade, he said,
“Her Majesty the Empress sent an assassin, but I thought sending him into the banquet hall might cause a scene.”
The assassin died with his eyes wide open.
Charlotte blinked drowsily, then rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand.
“You’re quite drunk, Charlotte?”
“No.”
“Your expression is far too calm right now.”
Benjamin put away his sword and straightened his clothes.
“Was it too noisy out here? I thought I handled it rather quietly.”
Benjamin wiped his hands clean and dropped the handkerchief onto the ground.
“The banquet is nearly over, isn’t it?”
“Yes. It’s winding down.”
“I’m done as well. Should I inform the Windsors and head back to the mansion?”
Benjamin gently touched Charlotte’s cheek.
“Your cheeks are hot. Look—they’re flushed.”
“Stop pestering me.”
“No, look. Your cheeks are red.”
It was time to head home.
Benjamin patted Charlotte’s head and whispered.
Perhaps it was the haze in her mind.
All her senses felt blurred.
It’s alright now. Truly alright. I’ll be fine too.
“Tomorrow… would you like to go somewhere with me?”
“Where to?”
“I’ll tell you tomorrow. It’s a place I simply can’t bring myself to visit alone.”
Charlotte moved her feet slowly.
The ground seemed to sink beneath her.
And at some point, her consciousness faded.
Benjamin picked up the sleeping Charlotte.
His steps slowed, and even the rustling of grass grew quiet.
When they reached the Windsor carriage, members of the Windsor household were waiting.
“Were you two together?”
“Yes. It just happened that way.”
“Give the child to me.”
Leandro reached out toward Charlotte.
Benjamin looked down blankly at the sleeping Charlotte.
Calm.
Yet gloomy.
That expression strangely held his gaze.
It was as if Charlotte were whispering, wrapped in thorns, urging him to sink down with her to the very bottom.
Leandro held his breath as he watched Benjamin standing there, motionless.

Benjamin brought a finger to his lips and gestured, ‘Be quiet.’
Sleep peacefully. Isn’t it alright to be like this, just for today?
Benjamin carefully handed Charlotte over to Leandro.
“I’ll take the child.”
Everyone had already melted back into the banquet hall.
Outside, several assassins silently fell dead.
And among them was Pyotr.
[This is the timeline separator]Pyotr’s expression hardened in dismay.
The child had changed so much she was unrecognizable. She had already become someone else.
His instincts told him.
Bring that child back.
Force her down on her knees if you must, lock her away if needed.
“I have to find that child again.”
Pyotr’s muttered words lingered in the air.
[This is the timeline separator]“Charlotte, are you alright?”
Aster blinked dazedly, his lips moving soundlessly.
Charlotte was dressed in outdoor attire and wore a beret on her head.
She planned to go out immediately—she had errands to run today.
“You’re up and busy from morning.”
Aster scolded her, “You’re a tough one, aren’t you!”
Charlotte quickly finished preparing to leave.
“What do you mean?”
“I thought you’d overdone it last night, so I made you some honey water…”
“Uncle, how old do you think I am? Don’t worry about me.”
“How old are you? Charlotte, do you even remember being carried back last night?”
“Carried back? Don’t joke. I bathed properly and went to bed myself.”
She’d woken up stretching in bed that morning, feeling refreshed.
She’d even finished bathing—the scent of soap still clung to her skin.
Her nightclothes had been neatly changed as well.
“Drink the honey water first.”
Charlotte drank the honey water Aster had prepared without a word.
“Your stomach must take after Colette.”
“Mother only liked wine. She’d nearly vomit whenever she tried any other alcohol.”
“Oh dear. Colette… you’ve taught your daughter something truly wonderful.”
Now she understood why her mother drank strong liquor despite that—only with age did she realize.
When the bitterness made her stomach heave, the oppressive weight inside eased, if only slightly.
Everything that had felt suffocating became meaningless, if only for that moment.
“Where are you off to so early in the morning?”
“Yes. I’m supposed to go somewhere with His Highness.”
Aster narrowed his eyes subtly.
“You arranged this right after waking up?”
“Well, yes?”
“No, never mind. Go safely. Send His Highness a message too. You fell asleep, and he carried you all the way to the carriage.”
Aster, still holding the honey water, muttered, “This isn’t right,” and left.
[This is the timeline separator]“Has the young lady arrived?”
Roskella greeted Charlotte. He set down his wine glass and glanced down at Benjamin seated across from him.
“Your Highness, however busy you may be, you must attend to your fiancée. The young lady has arrived.”

“She has?”
Benjamin closed his documents and gestured toward her with his eyes.
Roskella wiped a glass with a dry cloth across the table,
while Benjamin sat at the Irish table, swiftly organizing his papers.
The Crown Prince’s engagement ceremony had just concluded, and his intelligence officers were now swamped.
“Would the young lady care for something to drink?”
“I’ll be leaving soon, so it’s fine.”
Roskella set down the dry cloth he’d been using to wipe the glass.
“The kind-hearted young lady has made a great decision. Is this engagement truly acceptable?”
Benjamin, who had been sorting documents, looked up.
“What do you mean?”
“Your Highness, please remain silent.”
Benjamin shot him a look that clearly said, ‘Say one more word.’
“If the young lady is being threatened, just wave a carrot. Or if His Highness’s presence is making her uncomfortable, tap your wine glass twice with a spoon. Then I’ll…”
“Shut up.”
“Your Highness is only cold toward me.”
Roskella pretended not to notice and hung the glass upside down in the cabinet.
After tidying the table neatly, Roskella looked at Charlotte with an expression that seemed to say, ‘How on earth did the young lady end up with such a bandit-like fellow?’
“Congratulations on your engagement.”
Despite his conflicted expression, Roskella offered his congratulations readily.
“So you’re heading out to the city outskirts today?”
“Yes. Are you done with your busy work, Benjamin?”
“We should leave if we want to return before sunset.”
Benjamin set aside the documents he’d been reviewing and handed them to Roskella.
Roskella took the papers and slipped through a hidden side door behind the table.
“Come with me.”
Charlotte donned her robe and stepped outside.
Quite some time had passed since the engagement ceremony.
“Do you have an escort?”
“My maternal relatives are very worried.”
She’d even been assigned a temporary guard.
The temporary guard knight was a female knight with long, dark brown hair tied back tightly.
‘I’m Katarina.’
Katarina, naturally taciturn, spoke very little.
Charlotte adjusted her beret and climbed into the carriage.
“Where are we going?”
“I need to visit an apothecary.”
“If it’s the apothecary, are you unwell? Couldn’t you just ask the family physician…?”
“It has to be him.”
“The city outskirts aren’t safe. Are you sure?”
“It’s a place I used to visit often.”
The carriage stopped before a quiet alleyway.
“Is this it?”
Benjamin lightly tapped the old fence of the shack with the back of his hand,
as if double-checking whether this was truly their destination.
This was Aaron the apothecary’s shop.
It had been when all hope for her mother was lost.
‘Why are you crying alone?’
Aaron had appeared before Charlotte then.
She’d wanted to do something—anything.

As her mother’s condition worsened, the medicine had grown increasingly toxic.
Time was running out. She’d needed to do something—had to do something.
“It’s too late.”
What should her first greeting be?
“I should have come to greet you sooner, but I abruptly stopped visiting.”
Only after death had she remembered—after decades.
Charlotte halted before the old building and looked up at it.
Now she could truly feel just how desperate she’d been back then.
“Who’s there? Oh…?”
“It’s been a long time, Aaron.”
Aaron hesitated at Charlotte’s unexpected greeting.
“Did you come for medicine?”
“Not today.”
“Then why come all this way?”
For over a decade, I should have thanked you—but I forgot.
Only when I married and my limbs grew stiff and useless did I remember you.
“Mother has passed away.”
Aaron held his breath.
“She passed peacefully in the end. Your apothecary helped us greatly, and I owe you a great debt. Thank you all these years.”
Charlotte ended her words firmly.
“Charlotte.”
Benjamin watched her intently.
His gaze followed her persistently, its weight settling heavily on her shoulders.
Benjamin placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Let’s go inside first.”
Benjamin met Aaron’s eyes.
“This isn’t a conversation for outside.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
