The large body loomed over the head.

“I’ll put you to sleep. Let’s sleep now.”

Benjamin Visennov brushed back his reddish hair. As the strands of hair tangled in his hand, his lips slightly relaxed.

“Is the lantern weak? Your cheeks are cold.”

“The corridor was cold, wasn’t it?”

“It’s because you came out dressed so thinly.”

Charlotte pulled the hair from his hand. Charlotte, pulling up the blanket, laid Benjamin down first.

“Did you call to be put to sleep, or did you call to put me to sleep?”

“I’ll think about it after laying you down first.”

Charlotte laid him down and took a seat beside him.

She pulled the blanket up to his shoulders.

‘Oh, is this not enough?’

As Charlotte touched his forehead with the back of her hand, laughter was heard from beside her.

“You’re doing exactly what I do.”

“I don’t really know what else I should do. Am I a bit clumsy?”

“It’s okay.”

“Fortunately, you don’t have a fever. You don’t seem to have a cold.”

“If a knight who wields a sword catches a cold, I should go die. Isn’t that a sign of not taking care of my body?”

If body management is so lax, who is taking care of whom?

Benjamin spoke in a light tone, as if sharing a light joke.

‘Is this story meant for me to hear?’

Your body is also exceedingly frail, yet you take care of me?

It somehow seemed like a reproach.

“What next, after laying you down?”

“I’m going to sleep too.”

Charlotte took her place beside him.

“The night wind is noisy. I think I won’t be able to sleep if I sleep alone.”

“You’re scared of sleeping alone, Char.”

Charlotte blew out the candle and turned it off completely. She placed the candlestick back on the table and sat at the end of the bed.

She fumbled under the blanket.

The blanket rustled.

Charlotte found her spot to lie down and slipped into it.

She turned her back to lie down, and his body touched her.

He reached out to make room for her to lie down.

“Come closer.”

He seemed to be looking this way.

“You came to sleep together anyway.”

Benjamin pulled Charlotte to him. His chest touched her back.

It felt as if it had collided with a raging rock. His embrace was both hot and firm.

Charlotte turned her back.

Her eyes accustomed to the darkness slowly became clear.

As expected, Benjamin was looking this way.

His black pupils sparkled in the darkness.

He brushed back Charlotte’s stray hair and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“You shouldn’t turn your back and lie down after you brought me here.”

He whispered.

“What next?”

What now?

“Was putting me to sleep beside you all you wanted?”

He patted Charlotte’s stomach.

It seemed like he was asking, ‘Is that all?’

His touch was gentle, like patting a child’s stomach.

Sometimes fast, sometimes slow.

He wrapped her lower abdomen and tapped it like pressing piano keys.

“That was it.”

Lying sideways, propping himself up on his arm, he stopped the motion of his hand.

As if he had fallen asleep, his breath grew still.

She examined him closely. He was in a poised position without any change of expression.

His eyelashes were long, and the eyes hidden beneath them concealed their eeriness.

“Why?”

As if sensing her gaze, Benjamin opened his eyes. His sleepy eyes were dark.

Charlotte embraced his chin.

His chin was smooth. Though his hand had calluses and scars, his cheek was pale and fair.

She felt worried.

Charlotte closed her eyes and brought her lips to his.

Their lips met. If there were a chilly warmth, it would have been like this.

Hot breath exploded. He bit and soaked her lips.

As the lips quivered, the front teeth sharply bit a chunk of flesh.

“You make people yearn.”

You pull and release the line like walking a tightrope, coming close and then moving away.

“Char.”

The whispered name dispersed in his mouth.

(This is a time separator.)

Benjamin looked down at the sleeping Charlotte.

The candle by the bed was also extinguished.

He pulled up the blanket and covered Charlotte.

Lying beside her, he comforted her, and his expression became much more relaxed.

She had fallen asleep with her hands folded over her belly button.

She lay upright, without any disarray.
“I made a needless promise.”

I shouldn’t have made such a promise at midnight.

“It feels very comfortable.”

Charlotte turned her back and lay down.

Her red hair was scattered as if sprinkled over the white blanket.

I was captivated by the sight.

Lying on her side, only one cheek faintly visible.

Even in the dark, her skin was pale and white. Her slender neck was highlighted.

I buried my head in her nape.

“I didn’t do anything.”

Not yet.

“It was you, Charlotte, who told me not to leave you alone.”

As if hearing the whisper, Charlotte turned to face me.

It meant she had fallen into a deep sleep.

You may not know while you sleep, but you have a habit in your sleep.

You fumble for warmth in the blanket, nestling into someone’s embrace.

She whispered softly.

“Don’t go.”

Don’t leave me alone. It was a desperate plea. Don’t leave me alone, it was the true intention whispered in slumber.

“Don’t abandon me.”

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
