Charlotte lay down again as she was about to get up. Her soul had escaped, leaving her head numb.

“Miss, you’ve made a wise decision. If you move any more here, it will only strain your body.”

“Grandfather or uncle, you are being too harsh.”

“Well, I brought the medicine. Take it first.”

Charlotte drank the medicine that the maid had brought for her. The powdered medicine was mixed with water, and the bitter water gurgled as it went down her throat. It seemed to tell her where her esophagus was, piece by piece.

Charlotte’s face turned sad, and she whispered,

“It’s bitter, uncle.”

Aster happily looked down at her and pulled out a hard candy from his pocket.

“Are you not going to eat candy now that you’re older?”

“It’s sweet.”

“If candy is sweet, then what would be bitter?”

The round hard candy was strawberryflavored, and it was generously coated with sugar. Charlotte melted it in her mouth as she rolled it around, and Aster crouched down to talk with her at eye level.

“We are not the ones who are harsh. You are harsh to yourself. That’s what pains those who watch you, since you don’t know it.”

Aster squeezed Charlotte’s head without hurting her. Charlotte held her head and moaned.

“It hurts.”

“It hurts? Is it painful? This is painful. When you were sweating coldly and groaning, you didn’t say it hurt once, but then you suddenly fainted and a single slap hurts you…….”

Aster was about to squeeze Charlotte again but instead opened his hand and stroked her.

“Don’t be hurt.”

Aster cleared his throat awkwardly. Seeming embarrassed, he looked away and went outside.

(This is a time divider.)

“How is our child?”

Aster looked around Charlotte’s room repeatedly.

“What will we do with that child?”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t know what made her like this. What should we do with that child?”

Leandro stopped walking and looked out the window. The weather was clear. It seemed insincere in its clarity, as if everything was fine.

“She will tell us when the time comes.”

For now, it is best to watch over her. Simply keeping a seat beside her is enough.

“If something goes wrong, we can correct it then. Just leave it be for now. I strongly feel we should let it be.”

We take one step closer, but what if she steps back? What if the heart she barely opened closes?

We are still strangers to her.

Not long since we met.

An abnormal meeting after the death of her biological mother.

What can we say about this encounter? There was one reason we couldn’t dig into her. Nothing was normal.

When I first saw those eyes.

Leandro glimpsed his daughter’s face in those eyes. He was almost startled by the resemblance.

He did nothing when his daughter kept her distance from the family, thinking she had to protect her child.

“I hate that family. Even if it was a promise made by our ancestors, to watch my sister die like that… damn old woman, what on earth has she left us with? Tied by custody rights…….”

“Would Cozette have resented the child?”

Aster paused.

“Cozette was not that kind of child.”

“She left without asking us, even at the last moment. Charlotte is left alone there. It may be hard for her to be like others. Outwardly, she may look fine, but inside, she may be withered.”

“Father.”

“I’m afraid.”

Leandro revealed his inner thoughts for the first time.

“As Cozette distanced herself from us.”

“Father!”

“If that child does too.”

That child was not exactly young. Still, in their eyes, she was still young. Young and fragile.

“Don’t you see it?”

“What are you talking about?”

“That the child we need to protect is trying to protect us instead?”

It’s still a time to grieve.

“Child.”

She was not young enough to be called that way.

Leandro’s fingertips trembled slightly.

“You are going too far away alone.”

(This is a time divider.)

Time passed slowly.
Charlotte opened her eyes and looked up at the ceiling. The room, shrouded in darkness, depended solely on the light from outside the window.

It was late at night. The familiar ceiling greeted her.

Her blurry vision became clear, and Charlotte clutched the quilt, moaning.

Her mind was put at ease by that familiarity.

Charlotte finally said, “It’s the Windsor furniture,” and was reassured once again.

“……”

Charlotte fumbled for her throat and got out of bed.

‘You compulsively touch your throat.’

Charlotte paused and lowered her arm.

“I’m thirsty.”

She was dressed in white pajamas.

Thanks to the light clothing, her body felt much more comfortable.

“It’s because I’m thirsty.”

The air seemed to moan at Charlotte’s whisperlike statement.

She poured and drank water from a cup she had left on the table.

Her cheek was hot. The heat had risen to her head, making her dizzy.

Charlotte staggered out of the bedroom. The hallway was empty.

She stood in the hallway, clutching her chest, swallowing her breath, feeling suffocated as if something was blocked.

“It hurts.”

Charlotte caught her breath and closed her lips.

It felt as if her chest was tightly bundled.

Charlotte pounded her chest as if to shake off the lump.

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
