What got stuck in the back of Maleta’s head with a dull sound was the Holy Book that Ariadne always carried around.
When Maleta turned her head holding the back of her head, Ariadne with a cold expression was in sight.
“You should know your place, who are you trusting to be so careless?”
Ariadne was intimidating, with her tall height and cold eyes, unlike a 15yearold.
However, Maleta had something to say, and something to believe.
“Hey, if you’re born from a maid, aren’t you in the same position as us?”
“Huh?”
“To be honest, your father is a confessed clergyman. Strictly speaking, clergymen are not nobles, so you are not even of noble birth.”
At the true feelings of the outspoken maid Maleta, Ariadne stared at Maleta for a long time. She thought she would see how far she would go.
“Okay, go on.”
Maleta stuck out her plump and sensual chest and continued.
“If I catch the eye of the Cardinal tomorrow, isn’t my child the same as you?”
Maleta raised her voice.
“Isabella or Arabella are naturally from noble birth because their mother Lucrezia is a noble, but you trying to match them is a disregard for rank!”
Slap!
Stars flew in front of Maleta’s eyes. Ariadne had slapped Maleta. She didn’t need to listen any further.
“So are you saying that my father’s lineage is lowly and not noble?”
Ariadne rebuked coldly.
“This is a punishment for insulting my father.”
Before Maleta could come to her senses, Ariadne slapped the other cheek of Maleta.
Slap!
Ariadne sternly warned Maleta, who was holding her right cheek and had been hit hard on the left cheek.
“This is a punishment for your jealousy.”
Ariadne picked up the fallen Holy Book and slapped Maleta’s cheek one last time with it.
Smack!
“Ah!”
A thick book met her face, not with a high noise but a dull one that reverberated through her skull. Malleta staggered a step backward before collapsing to the floor.
“Furthermore, are you dreaming of stealing the husband of your current master and taking his place? This is a servant of the house, who doesn’t know her place, daring to meddle with the private lives of her superiors.”
Holding her swollen cheek, Malleta gritted her teeth and glared at Ariadne.
Looking down at Malleta crumbled on the floor, Ariadne kindly added a comment.
“What you said today would have caused a scandal if anyone else had heard. Be careful with your tongue.”
Ariadne gave a trembling Malleta her dismissal.
“Out.”
Pointing to the door, Malleta ran out of Ariadne’s attic in a flurry.
Left alone, Ariadne finally clenched her teeth.
‘The essential difference between you and me is not lineage.’
Malleta was partially right. Ariadne was currently able to enjoy the privileges of power in the capital thanks to her father, but if one strictly followed the caste system, she was no different from a commoner.
However, it was not about who was more attractive and could tempt which man, as Malleta suggested. Life was not that simple.
Ariadne had learned firsthand in her previous life how miserable the end could be when living off a successful man.
‘The real difference between you and me is about setting goals and how much you can endure.’
There was a strong tension in Ariadne’s jaw muscles.
She did not want to live like Malleta.
She wanted to defend her dignity with her own hands. A life of being neither violated nor attacked, of respect and being respected. A life not tied to the life string of a single man.
‘This time, I will stand at the top to avoid being trampled. Damn maid, damn household, I’ll get rid of them all.’
An Indifferent Woman is the One Men Desire the Most
One-line summary: The female lead is actually cold-hearted and extremely rational. She has stage-by-stage relationships and won’t two-time, but there will always be someone who secretly likes her.
This novel has the following triggers, so if you’re sensitive to these, please don’t read:
1. The female lead has had many relationships, but she treated each one seriously and broke up properly.
It’s just that the men unilaterally pestered her incessantly. For the female lead, when she doesn’t like someone anymore, she simply doesn’t like them.
(This applies to her relationships with Male Lead 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well, but she’s loyal in each 1-on-1 relationship!)
2. In this novel, Male Lead 2 and the female lead kiss in a car, and Male Lead 1 sees it and beats up Male Lead 2.
The female lead calls the police and sends both Male Lead 1 and 2 to the police station! Male Lead 1 begs the female lead not to break up with him.
3. Male Lead 1 has a gentle appearance but an obsessive personality.
Male Lead 2 has a delicate and soft appearance, slightly green tea-like (two-faced).
Male Lead 3 is a youthful college student and a smart person who has secretly liked the female lead for a long time.
Male Lead 4 is the female lead’s father’s special assistant, a business elite with deep, hidden thoughts.
4. At the beginning of this novel, the female lead has already broken up with Male Lead 1 (Chapter 4) and gotten back together with Male Lead 2 (ex-boyfriend).
5. Enter with caution if you have triggers!!!
