At Leo III’s remark, Alfonso’s blood ran cold from head to toe.

It was the kind of statement one might brush off as mere wordplay or a mistaken metaphor with a laugh. Yet, his instinct warned him to stay alert.

“His Holiness the King wanted… what…?”

Alfonso asked cautiously, releasing his hand from Ariadne, whom he had pinned against the wall. As the pressure holding her in place vanished, she collapsed forward, falling right into Alfonso’s arms.

The softness of her body sent shivers through every nerve ending on his skin. She felt boneless. Alfonso closed his eyes, sighed deeply, then opened them again. Now was not the time for this.

“His Majesty the King…”
