Butler Nicolo lowered his head and signaled to the servants with his eyes. The servants swiftly and in unison dragged Isabella out of the Cardinal’s study.

“Die already!! You disgusting old wretch!!!”

Isabella’s screams and curses filled the second-floor corridor of the De Mare mansion. The household members dared not even peek out; they merely rolled their eyes, tracking Isabella’s fading figure as she was dragged away.

Ariadne had firmly shut herself inside her quarters, neither stirring nor showing any sign of whether she was awake or asleep, and the only one who even attempted to rush out and catch a glimpse of Isabella was Ippolito alone.

“What on earth is going on?!”

“Young Master, please step back. This is no affair for you to involve yourself in right now.”

Ippolito immediately flared up in anger.

“I am the sole son and future heir of this house! How dare you say there’s something I can’t have a say in!”
