Everyone called the boy that. The child brought misfortune to those around him.

He trampled the dreams of a man who longed for a happy family. He was born taking the life of a woman who desperately wanted a child.

A woman, pitying the motherless infant, offered her breast milk—but lost her husband. Even the old woman who took the child in soon died as well.

So everyone avoided the child. They feared losing their loved ones because of him.

Everyone wished the child would die—even his own father.

The boy’s small body bent under a brutal force. The man exhaled a harsh breath, still unsatisfied after striking a child less than half his size.

“You wretched creature, born by devouring your own mother.”

As always, his drunken father hurled cruel words at the child.

“If only you’d never been born…!”

He blamed all his misfortunes on a mere eight-year-old boy.

His descent into drunkenness, the villagers’ scorn, the loss of his beloved wife—he laid it all at the child’s feet.

“Don’t stare at me with those damn eyes!”

The man hated—no, loathed—the child’s red eyes. Not brown like his own, nor green like his late wife’s, but crimson like blood.
