Behind the mansion where a splendid party was being held, a woman was quietly strolling through the garden.
Silver hair shining brilliantly when struck by the moonlight.
Unrealistic features and purple eyes that emitted an enigmatic light.
The solitary woman’s posture seemed mysterious at a glance.
“I need to catch my breath here for a bit.”
She muttered while walking through the garden, exhaling a breath mixed with a touch of annoyance and irritation.
Lina’s mood, once uplifted by the longawaited festival, had completely vanished.
She couldn’t enjoy the party due to the persistent stares and closeness of the men who approached her as soon as she arrived. Plus, the hastily purchased cheap shoes made her body even more tired.
Neither in the mood nor in the physical state to enjoy the party any further, Lina was wandering around, looking for a place to ease her swollen legs.
“Where can I sit down…”

As Lina looked around, her ears suddenly caught a sound from not far away.
‘Water? Is there a fountain nearby?’
Thinking momentarily of sitting on the fountain, she quickly moved towards the sound.
Soon, an ivorycolored fountain with water flowing down came into view.
And then.
‘Who’s that?’
A man with black hair, seemingly devouring even the moonlight, caught her eye.
‘A knight?’
The victory celebration party held today was mainly attended by knights of common origin or those with a title, even if they were nobles.
Because of this, Lina, thinking that the man was a knight, stared at him from afar.

But the man seemed unaware of his presence there, just standing in front of the fountain, his eyes closed and his brow furrowed.
‘I was going to sit and rest there. Guess I can’t.’
Lina, who had planned to sit alone by the fountain for a brief rest, changed her mind at the sight of the stranger and decided to leave.
‘I’ll just have to go somewhere else.’
Just as she was about to turn away, she caught the eye of the man, who had turned his head towards her.
Eyes of gold as hot as the midday sun.
Thump, thump, thump.
‘What’s this…?’
As she met the man’s golden eyes, her quiet left chest began to thump loudly, announcing its presence.
‘Why is my heart…?’

Startled by the suddenly noisy chest pounding like a drum, Lina raised her hand to it.
‘Is it beating like this?’
How many moments of silence passed? The man, as if offering his seat, began to move.
One step.
Another step.
The closer he got, the more violently her heart began to beat.
‘I’m sure he’s a stranger…’
As if intoxicated by the diluted moonlight, her body would not obey.
Thud.
As if controlled by someone else, her hand suddenly grabbed the man’s fingers.

The man, too, stopped in his tracks, arrested by the soft flesh encircling his fingers.
Clumsily entwined fingers, he looked up to gaze at Lina.
Her trembling purple eyes met his golden eyes in midair.
In the dark place lit only by the rare moonlight, the man’s yellow eyes sparkled like those of a predator hunting herbivorous animals, so intense.
And as if her hand had moved of its own accord, words not of her will leapt from her mouth.
“Will you… walk with me?”
On a summer night with the scent of rustling grass carried by the wind.
She spent the night with him.
[This is the time separator]In the early dawn when the sun was still asleep.

The clothes strewn around the bed showed the traces of a passionate night.
Rustle.
Beneath the crumpled bedsheet, something began to wriggle and then, something long suddenly popped out next to the bed.
A thin arm, like a barren branch in the dead of winter, waved above the sleeping man’s face.
But no matter how much she shook him, the man lying beside her did not respond, so she began to look around, peeking out her round face that had been buried under the blanket.
“Could it be…”
She tilted her head and stared at the man, suddenly having a sinister thought, and lightly touched his nose with her hand, but the man’s shallow breath felt at her fingertips made her unknowingly sigh.
“Phew… Huh!”
Startled by the sound of her own breath breaking the silence, she jumped, quickly covering her mouth with both hands. Then, she looked down again with tense eyes.
But, much to her amusement, the man was still lying with his eyes closed, without moving a muscle.

‘It was quite loud… Is he really sleeping like a dead man?’
Usually, a knight would react sensitively to the presence of people, which was the right thing.
But this man didn’t even stir once, even though she rustled beside him, waved her hand in his face, and even made a notsosmall noise.
“…Ha.”
An exasperated sigh burst out before she knew it.
‘I thought he must be a knight. Was I mistaken?’
A rational suspicion about the man crossed her mind.
Tapping the bed with her finger as she pondered, she soon withdrew her hand.
‘But… Well, he’s not someone I’ll ever meet again, so whether he’s a knight or not, what does it matter to me?’
She threw away her tense look in an instant, and looked down at the man’s face.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
