“I somehow got cut by the carving knife.”

“Wouldn’t a wound that needs to be wrapped that much require a doctor?”

In the duke’s eyes inside the carriage, my reflection appeared. Slightly flushed cheeks and a bit disheveled pink hair. Even the expression that didn’t dislike his worry.

“It’s because Lanson and Anna overtreated it. It’s just this tiny cut. Really just this much.”

I spread my thumb and index finger to show it was smaller than a fingernail, but the carriage window kept swaying, making my body shake.

“Anyway, you came to pick me up, right?”

“If I say yes, will you go to the mansion?”

“Please wait just a moment. I’ll bring Anna.”

I staggered and turned back. When I opened the office door, Lanson was sprawled on the waiting room sofa, and Murten was sitting in a chair, exhaling heavily.

The relatively sober Anna was fetching water and making the two men drink to sober up.

“Anna, the duke says it’s time to go home?”

At my words, Anna answered anxiously.

“Can we just leave these people here?”

By then, Lanson seemed to have fallen asleep, limp. Murten stood up saying he’d return to the hotel, walked a lap around the waiting room, then declared he’d arrived and flopped onto an empty sofa.

“It seems fine to just leave them?”
