Ascal, immersed in the bathtub of the grand bathroom, stared blankly at a roughly cut piece of soap, unable to describe its shape clearly. A faint scent of Schmidt lingered there.

‘I feel strange.’

Ascal blinked his eyes, overwhelmed by an indescribable emotion. It was just a small sliver of soap, yet it made him imagine Schmidt sitting in the tub.

Ascal scooped water with his hand and splashed it onto the soap, then rubbed it repeatedly against the towel until foam formed. The subtle lemon scent instantly spread throughout the air.

‘I can’t use this soap twice.’

He had entered the bath to unwind after a tiring day, but using Schmidt’s soap had only heightened his tension with a thousand thoughts. Even after washing, his palms were sweaty.

“Your Excellency, I’ve prepared your changed clothes.”

A servant, roughly Rublion’s age, entered the grand bathroom carrying a robe and shirt.

“Just leave them there.”

The boy’s small hand wiped the moisture from the shelf and placed the clothes down. Then, sniffing the air, he asked:

“Is there anything else you need?”

“No. You may leave now.”

Ascal ushered the boy out, who kept sniffling. Then, as if suddenly realizing something, he murmured:

“…I shouldn’t have used the excuse of commercialization.”

The thought of someone else enjoying this scent instantly soured his mood. Ascal exhaled deeply, suppressing his turbulent emotions.
