The Duke looked at me with suspicious eyes. Then, he quickly returned to his usual blunt expression.

As my father and I entered the training ground, the soldiers noticed us, stopped their drills, and saluted in unison. He responded by raising his palm to his forehead.
“Your Grace, what brings you here?”
My father’s forehead glistened with sweat as he approached. It was a passionate sight I hadn’t seen in a long time.
“I came to ask about the research I’m involved in.”
“I see. Then let us move somewhere more suitable to discuss it.”
My father gave the soldiers further drill commands. I wanted to watch longer, but reluctantly turned away when he suggested going to the captain’s office.
Sitting in the captain’s office, I sipped the tea my father offered, waiting for our conversation to end.
