Having heard that Diana was a woman whose family name couldn’t even be spoken aloud, she’d expected her table manners to be terrible.

The Duke glanced briefly at Irene before shifting his gaze to Diana.
He was a man who’d shown no interest even in his own son, yet his reaction to Diana was different. He nodded slightly, as if urging her to speak.
“I was wondering—do you happen to know where your eldest son is right now?”
“Cough!”
Irene nearly spat out the salad she’d just eaten. The servants stirred in panic, whispering, “Oh dear, young lady!”—but the father, son, and Diana showed no reaction.
‘Eldest son? She’s calling that blood-obsessed man that? Right now?!’
Even the Duke himself had disowned that son, yet astonishingly, he was accepting everything Diana said without protest.
“Aren’t you two in contact?”

I think Noel is definitely involved in the regression. Also Noel may indeed be a bastard but what if some type of time travel is going on? That portrait was of someone from multiple generations ago & Noel appeared quite close to the woman.
