“Noel. You’re not feeling unwell, are you?”
Noel shook his head silently, his silver hair brushing against her cheeks.
He clung tightly to Diana’s neck, burying his face into her shoulder. Diana patted the child’s small back gently as she walked.
Ever since they found Felice, Noel had been acting strangely.
The child never explained why his body had shrunk.
When asked if there was magic to clean his clothes, he only replied that he couldn’t use magic for now.
Honestly, she hadn’t expected the child to use magic anyway. In a world where magic existed, as long as he was healthy despite his smaller size, she’d chosen not to question it.
But seeing Noel remain so downcast, she took him aside near a stream and asked him directly,
“Don’t abandon me!”
And then—to her surprise—he burst into heartbreaking sobs, as if the fear of being left behind had finally overflowed after being held back for so long.
She couldn’t blame him. After all, he was a bastard child who had been ignored until now, and with their return home imminent, his future still hadn’t been settled.
“You’re my little brother. Of course we’ll go home together.”
Only after she reassured him—”Why would I ever abandon you?”—did the child finally stop crying.
With tears still glistening in his eyes, Noel nestled firmly into Diana’s arms.
From that moment on, he never left her embrace for even a second.
Now, alongside Rodric, there was one more person suffering from separation anxiety.
“Sister-in-law.”
A cheerful sky-blue head suddenly popped into view. When their eyes met, Felice beamed like sunshine, the earring he’d lost earlier now dangling playfully from his ear.
“Shall I carry him?”
“No, it’s fine.”
At those words, Noel pressed himself even deeper into Diana’s arms. Felice simply smiled warmly and walked beside them without leaving her side.
“Could it be because he’s a late-born younger sibling? You two get along so well?”
“Felice seems close to Rodric too.”
“Haha, right? Though it’s mostly one-sided on my part. I love my older brother more, you see.”
Ahead of them, Rodric’s body visibly stiffened upon hearing that.
The knights with keen senses shuddered and rubbed their arms, while the more mischievous one even gagged dramatically with a “Ugh!”
“He’s just so adorable. Should I ask Father to get me one too?”
Are you serious?
She’d heard the Duchess—mother of the Schwarz brothers—had passed away long ago. That meant his father would need to either remarry or bring in a child from outside, neither of which the family would likely permit.
And didn’t you say your father terrified you?
“No! It’d be faster if Sister-in-law bore a nephew for us! Right, Sister-in-law?”
Hold on now, second male lead. You haven’t even proposed to your brother yet—thinking about children already?
“Aha… I suppose so?”
Unable to reveal the truth, Diana had no choice but to humor Felice’s enthusiasm.
“Wow! How beautiful would a child born of a fairy be? Since our brother is so handsome, if the baby takes after both of you, they’d be the most beautiful on the entire continent!”
Felice Schwarz, who had been missing, was now found. The search party sent to locate him was already on their way back, mission complete.
“Rather than talking about such distant futures, I’d prefer to hear about you, young master.”
They had wandered so deep into the forest that getting out wasn’t easy.
“I never got to hear why you came here in the first place.”
The path was treacherous, and monsters kept appearing, repeatedly hindering their progress.
Each time, Rodric took the lead, drenched in blood alone—and each time, it filled her with deep sympathy.
“So you’re saying you floated downstream with your face in the water because of paralysis venom?”
“Exactly! Sister-in-law, I really thought I was going to die. If I’d kept my face submerged just a little longer, I would’ve suffocated and gone to the afterlife!”
Once Felice started talking, he wouldn’t stop—chattering nonstop beside Diana about every detail of his adventure.
“How on earth did I end up running into you of all people? Ah—I hope I didn’t interrupt a private moment between you and my brother?”
“Of course not.”
Diana masked her thoughts with a smile, organizing her mind.
To summarize what she’d heard so far: the second male lead claimed he’d run away to break his brother’s curse—though he insisted it was merely “going out,” not “running away.”
After spotting a mysterious script about curses in an old tome at home, he’d recklessly headed straight into the Black Forest—also known as the Forest of Monsters.
Noel had said this forest was poison to cursed individuals, yet judging by Felice’s cheerful expression, he clearly had no idea.
“So… did you find anything useful?”
“Of course! I found mana stones and stone tablets inscribed with ancient script in this bag! I’m going to study them back home. I brought loads from the labyrinth. With these, I’ll find a way to lift my brother’s curse!”
Felice proudly lifted the magically lightened bag.
Watching him, Diana’s brow furrowed.
An ominous aura. Crimson magical energy was visibly rising like smoke. Why hadn’t she noticed it sooner?
It looked dangerous—something they should discard immediately.
“Mister.”
“Huh? Me?”
Noel, who had been nuzzling Diana’s neck, suddenly lifted his head. His red eyes gleamed strangely.
“Mister.”
Felice froze mid-smile at the unfamiliar address.
“Wait—if Sister-in-law is ‘older sister,’ why am I ‘Mister’?”
“Because you’re her younger brother’s younger brother. So, Mister.”
Ignoring Felice entirely, Noel pointed with his plump, sausage-like finger toward the bag.
“That thing…”
“Everyone, scatter!”
It was a sudden attack. Fiery boulders, like meteors, crashed down, scattering the knights.
Diana tried to move while holding Noel, but Felice was faster.
He scooped up both Noel and Diana in his arms and leapt high into the air. Perched atop a tree branch, Felice let out a sigh of relief.
Despite their considerable combined weight, Felice stood effortlessly.
She’d assumed he was genuinely weak based on how the knights teased him—but this was unexpected.
Maybe it was because he was the second male lead. The future Duke was shaping up to be just as fierce a warrior as his brother.
Noticing her gaze, Felice glanced at the battlefield below and grinned down at her.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, you can put us down now.”
“Eh, you’re light! Just bear with it a bit longer. My brother will finish this soon.”
True to Felice’s words, Rodric was already taking down a crocodile-like monster by himself.
As Diana tracked Rodric’s movements, Noel in her arms suddenly reached out urgently.
“Mister—the bag!”
Exposed to the flaming debris, the bag had partially burned and now dropped to the ground with a thud.
Instantly, everything inside spilled out.

The stone tablet inscribed with ancient script and the mana stones tangled together began emitting an ominous magical aura.
Her heart pounded uneasily.
This wasn’t the same curse that had worked as medicine for her. This was something far more fundamentally different.
The fallen tablet and cluster of mana stones glowed crimson—an aura so malevolent it poisoned anyone bearing a curse.
Instinct screamed: Rodric is in danger. This will affect him.
“Put me down.”
“No, wait just a moment, Sister-in-law.”
“Move.”
Without waiting for his reply, Diana handed Noel over and leapt down from the tree. Safely landing, she immediately turned her eyes toward Rodric.
“Rodric!”
Just as she feared, the sinister presence instantly engulfed him, drawn to him like prey.
His breath grew ragged, wheezing harshly through clenched teeth.
Rage madness. His eyes flooded with red fury, lost to bloodlust. Devoid of reason, he growled like a beast.
“Form ranks—now!”
The knights raised their drawn swords, their tips aimed squarely at Rodric.
The explosive killing intent froze their bodies in place.
This time, they truly steeled themselves for a fight for their lives, swallowing hard.
Everyone hesitated before his wild, ferocious gaze that seemed ready to tear everything apart.
“My lord.”
Daren glanced nervently at Diana as she approached, beads of cold sweat on his brow.
“Please step back, my lady.”
Rodric’s bloodshot eyes fixed chillingly on her—the weakest among them, now clearly identified.
“How long can you hold on?”
Hold on they must. As Diana implied, their only recourse was to block him—by any means necessary. Even if it meant wounding their lord, they had to stop him.
They had to prevent him from self-destruction, from consuming himself. Their own lives were secondary.
“Not more than a few minutes. At most, three.”
“Good. One exchange. Just hold him off for one exchange before I reach him.”
“But that’s—what do you mean…?”
Rodric reacted the moment Diana moved. Simultaneously, the knights charged at him.
Steel clashed against steel, sparks flying. Even in madness, Rodric’s swordsmanship remained exceptional.
Alone, he countered six swords, crushing them with overwhelming skill and force.
The knights strained under his attacks, unable to land even a single wound—they themselves were the ones reduced to tatters.
Every second counted.
Diana quickly removed her heavy outer garment, lightening herself as much as possible.
Her whole body pounded violently, her head spinning. Now unburdened, she gripped her short dagger and sprinted toward Rodric.
“Sir Daren!”
One exchange. At her shout, all six knights attacked together. Losing patience, Rodric exploded with sword energy, blasting them in all directions.
In that exact instant as they were flung away, she raised one hand high while protecting her throat with the dagger.
Snap—!
A deafening sound thundered through the forest, so loud it made listeners flinch.
The force was so immense it twisted Rodric’s head sideways.
Everyone froze, staring at Diana in shock.
Her pink eyes quickly assessed the blade now pressed to her throat. Fortunately, she’d met it with her dagger in time—it hadn’t pierced deeply.
Seizing the moment Rodric paused, she swiftly knocked his sword aside and pulled him close, pressing her lips against his.
No—she bit his lips.
The taste of blood. The madness wavered, then quieted under this direct sensation.
Through the slight parting of their lips, she greedily drew out the curse.
“Haa—”
The writhing curse churned wildly in her mouth.
Startled by the sensation inside her mouth, Rodric stiffened, dropped his sword, and surrendered himself to her.
Whether the seething bloodlust had transformed into desire—
Their prolonged kiss gradually deepened, growing more intense.
She kept drawing out the curse as much as she could, though the foreign magic seemed to resist absorption and threatened to flow back.
“My… lady?”
His eyelids fluttered as awareness returned. She loosened her grip slightly at the muffled sound escaping his lips.
“Hah… hah…”
Meeting his now-focused blue eyes, Diana offered a weak smile. Words tumbled out before her brain could catch up.
“Hah… you know what?”
Drip—blood trickled from her nose.
“You’re really high-maintenance, you know that?”
Warm liquid slid down under her chin. Frowning, she wiped it off with the back of her hand.
“Ah…”
“My lady?”
“It hurts.”
She collapsed backward right then and there.

I wonder if this happened on the previous timeline and that’s what changed Felice’s personality.

It seems like Noel could easily turn into a villain, especially if something happened to Diana.
