“Robert.”
“Yes, did you summon me?”
A white-haired elder in a neatly tailored tailcoat, with white gloves on, placed his hands over his chest and bowed to Feliche.
“Report the list of rats. And make sure to keep everyone tight-lipped about the lady, especially your grandson.”
The first servant to learn of Diana’s status as a Beatus Lady was the elder’s grandson, who almost caused a disaster by speaking out of turn. The elder internally sighed, knowing his grandson’s curiosity must have gotten the better of him again.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure everyone’s lips are sealed.”
“Maids, servants, sift through them all without exception. The lord is currently calm, but his mood is fragile and he might draw his sword at any moment.”
Feliche seemed to be worrying about his brother. But the elder’s expectations were off the mark.
“If they reek of blood, the lady might dislike it, no?”
A faint smile on his usually cold face sent shivers down the spine.
Feliche, who always maintained a smiling demeanor, now chose his smiles selectively, becoming more expressionless like his brother.
“Ah, and call the jeweler and tailor. My brother won’t have the mind for such things. Prepare everything perfectly so that the lady faces no discomfort when she wakes up.”
“Understood.”
Watching the future head of the family walk away, the elder suppressed his fatigue and removed his glasses to clean them.
What exactly happened to the brothers? Both had changed.
Everyone at the Schwarz estate was shocked when Roderick alighted from the carriage with a woman in his arms, the identity of the woman notwithstanding. Roderick Schwarz returning with a woman was unheard of.
He abandoned his subordinates and entered seclusion in the best guest room with the woman.
Roderick dismissed the maids and personally cared for the woman. Rumors spread like wildfire.
The man, almost mad with bloodlust, was clinging to a woman.
His actions were unbelievable.
Those who only heard rumors could not contain their curiosity and peered into the guest room.
“It’s time for a clean-up.”
The elder put his glasses back on with a firm face, determined to handle his duties.
“Why won’t she wake up?”
Roderick’s voice, tinged with impatience, was met with a sullen reply from Noel.
“She will wake up.”
Noel lay beside Diana on the massive bed, tightly holding her hand.
“Her recovery is slow. She absorbed too much of the curse and needs stability.”
“Can you also see magic?”
Diana’s face, which had been the focus of Roderick’s crimson eyes, now turned towards him.
Noel pouted slightly, reluctant to share.
Initially, Diana had to absorb his curse, but he didn’t like it.
Being near this man seemed to bring more harm to Diana, he felt.
“Too much medicine becomes poison.”
Annoyed, Noel changed the subject.
“The curse based on magic is like a clump of magic. Ordinary people shouldn’t possess too much of it. That’s why you’re falling into madness.”
“…….”
Roderick silently gazed at Diana.
Noel puffed his cheeks and turned away.
He wouldn’t tell him that Diana was wandering in her dreams. That she’d be back soon.
The sulky child was soon carried out of the room by Feliche, not to disturb the two.
Resistance was futile.
When she opened her eyes, her greatest fear was always pain.
Considering the agony she felt until her near-death, she couldn’t help but dread and struggle against it.
Everything around her had crumbled and been engulfed in darkness, leaving her with nothing but the thought that it was time to wake up.
“Please, let it not be painful this time.” She closed her eyes in her dream, wishing for relief.
Upon waking, instead of pain, she was greeted by an enchantingly soft and refreshing scent.
Familiar with the aroma, her pink eyes flickered open beneath trembling eyelids.
It was morning.
The room, bathed in sunlight, lay in a gentle darkness, shielded by tightly closed curtains.
What’s this?
Confused by the thick barrier, Diana frowned. Fumbling around, her hand, feeling something solid, was suddenly caught by a larger hand.
“Is touching me the first thing you do when you wake up?”
As her blurry vision cleared, Diana blinked slowly.
The sharp jawline and sculpted features snapped her out of her daze.
“Roderick?”
“Yes. Were you expecting someone else?”
She couldn’t bother to respond to his weak joke. She let out a gasp between slightly parted lips.
What is this heavenly sight upon waking up?
Her view was filled with a landscape of bare skin. Broad, muscular, and impressively toned.
“Done admiring?”
His intense gaze fixed on her face. Uh, did I stare too long?
She awkwardly averted her eyes and nodded. Then, she took in her current situation.
Lying in bed, nearly embracing a naked man, wearing only a sheer nightdress, she was close enough to be in his arms.
“Did we sleep together?”
“We did more than just sleep.”
“What? Ah.”
Attempting to sit up, Diana internally screamed from the soreness spreading throughout her body.
“Careful.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
