Tikan stood before Cassius, his face sunburnt under the blazing sun.

Reading the report in the darkened expression of his face, Cassius spoke first.

“Did you fail?”

“We lay in ambush day and night, yet Birelof never showed himself.”

Had they more time, they might have scoured the area for a few more days—but the assembly was now only a day away.

Cassius flicked his fingers against the tabletop, thinking of Vivian.

‘So it really was deception, after all.’

In hindsight, perhaps she had only been stalling for time, trying to turn the situation in her father’s favor.

Complicated thoughts enveloped Cassius.

The intricately woven colors of emotion soon converged into a single conclusion.

Perhaps this was for the best.

If that woman was truly allied with Snowfell, then nothing would remain for him to hesitate over—nothing at all.

Rising to his feet, Cassius strode purposefully toward the Crown Princess’s quarters.

Tikan, unable to utter a word beneath the weight of those heavy footsteps, followed silently behind.
