Eun Seo picked out the neatest outfit among the clothes I owned and put it on.

Although it was quite cold, instead of a puffer jacket, Eun Seo wore her most expensive wool coat and wrapped a scarf around it. She then slung a tote bag over her shoulder and stepped out of the goshiwon.

It was raining. For winter rain, the amount was unusually heavy, forming puddles here and there. Eun Seo opened her purple umbrella to shield herself.

It happened just as she rounded a curve near her destination. Swoooosh—followed by the sound of tires slicing through water, a powerful spray shot upward.

“Ah!”

The water flung violently by the car wheels slashed through the air and thoroughly soaked the lower half of Eun Seo’s coat, her pants, and even her sneakers before vanishing without a trace.

“What should I do….”

While Eun Seo stood flustered, two men got out of the car that had passed her and come to a stop. They approached her, who was frantically brushing off the muddy water.

“I’m so sorry. Are you all right?”

Eun Seo looked up wordlessly—it was because she hadn’t expected the car to stop.

Her gaze, rising in proportion to the man’s height, lingered in the air for a long moment before she finally met his eyes directly.

First, his long and sensitive-looking eyes; next, his smooth, prominent nose bridge; and then his sharp yet distinctly masculine jawline. For a fleeting second, she wondered if this was real—like encountering a creature from another world.

Seeing no reaction from Eun Seo except her wide, startled eyes, the man asked again.

“I said, are you okay?”

“Yes. No.”
