Eun Seo didn’t start walking toward the main house’s front entrance until after Madam Ahn had crossed over to the annex.

Right beside the entrance was a room now filled to the brim—thanks to Tae Ha—with Eun Seo’s shoes. Yet she bypassed it and opened the door to the adjacent room where Tae Ha’s shoes were displayed.

It resembled a boutique.

Eun Seo carefully examined each pair of shoes stored neatly in categorized shoe-care compartments: dress shoes, sneakers, climbing shoes, tennis shoes, and so on.

But none of them was what she was looking for.

‘There was a place for brand-new shoes, wasn’t there?’

At the very back of the room, she spotted a display shelf holding several shopping bags just as they’d been left.

‘Here they are.’

Eun Seo slowly scanned downward from the top, meticulously checking each shelf from left to right.

And she found it—the shopping bag from the store where Tae Ha had given her her first pair of shoes.

There were actually three shopping bags from the same store.

Back then, Tae Ha had opened one of several shopping bags and taken out a shoebox. Before doing so, he’d lifted Eun Seo’s shoe, inspecting it closely as if verifying something.

At the time, she’d wondered why he was doing that—maybe because her shoes were dirty?

Eun Seo set the shopping bag on the floor and sat down comfortably, her bottom resting against the ground. Then she pulled a brown box out of the first shopping bag.

For some reason, her fingers tingled, making it harder than usual to lift the lid. Through the half-open gap, a glimpse of black boots appeared.
