Secret Baby (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
“I have nothing to say.”
“Why did you disappear like that back then?”
“It’s all in the past, and it has absolutely nothing to do with you, so there’s no need for you to know. Knowing won’t do you any good either.”
“Nothing to do with me? Was the time you spent with me so easily forgettable for you?”
“……”
Seo Ha remained silent. Tae Kyung stared at her blankly, like a stone statue, until he finally saw her avert her gaze—his barely holding-together heart crumbled once more.
“Even if it has nothing to do with me, I still need to know why.”
“Please stop tormenting me and go away. I don’t want to see your face, oppa.”
Tae Kyung repeated, over and over, the same question he’d asked himself countless times during the past five years, stung by Seo Ha’s words—colder and sharper than winter wind.
Just what had he done wrong? Had he hurt her somehow? Or if not him, perhaps his mother had wounded Seo Ha?
Whatever the reason, it frustrated and pained him deeply that even looking at him had become such a painful, repulsive ordeal for her.
“Even if you don’t want to see me, you will. I don’t care if you call me stubborn or tiresome.”
“Tae Kyung oppa!”
Only then did Seo Ha finally look straight at Tae Kyung. Swallowing her tears, she blurted out words whose sincerity she herself couldn’t even be sure of—
just to drive him away.
“Why do you keep doing this when I’ve told you I hate it! If you don’t leave right now, I’ll call the police.”
Min Seob, who’d been watching nearby, couldn’t stand it any longer. He roughly grabbed Tae Kyung’s shoulder and shoved him back.
“What’s this pathetic behavior? Haven’t you heard Ms. Seo Ha say she doesn’t want you here? Just leave while you’re still being spoken to nicely.”
“Who the hell are you to stop me? Are you Kim Seo Ha’s husband or something?”
Tae Kyung’s low, calm yet firm voice made Min Seob realize he wouldn’t back down easily.
Words weren’t really Min Seob’s style anyway—he wanted nothing more than to physically force Tae Kyung out.
“Then how about this? You’d better leave and stop bothering another man’s woman. If words don’t work, I’ll have no choice but to use my fists.”
“Whether you’re her husband or not doesn’t matter. This is between me and Kim Seo Ha. You’re the one who should get out of here.”
“What?”
Min Seob immediately swung his large fist straight at Tae Kyung’s face.
It all happened in an instant.
Though Tae Kyung was tall and broad-shouldered himself, he couldn’t withstand the punch thrown with full force by Min Seob, a former athlete.
Seeing this, Seo Ha turned deathly pale.
Tae Kyung slowly rose to his feet, clutching his face.
“I did say I’d resort to fists if words failed.”
“I had no idea Kim Seo Ha’s taste ran to such rough men.”
Tae Kyung let out a bitter smirk. Min Seob shook his fist and tilted his chin up defiantly.
At that moment, Yoon Hee’s voice cut sharply between them.
“Enough already! What on earth are you doing right in front of a kindergarten!”
Tae Kyung straightened his clothes, then bowed politely to Yoon Hee.
“I apologize for causing a disturbance.”
“You’d better leave for today. I don’t know what’s going on, but Ms. Kim clearly needs some time.”
Her voice rang with authority. Tae Kyung let out a small sigh, took one last look at the kindergarten, and bowed respectfully again.
“Understood. I’ll come see you again soon.”
He stared intently at Seo Ha for a moment, then—unexpectedly compliant—turned and walked away without another word.
As soon as Tae Kyung disappeared from sight, Seo Ha’s legs gave out, and she sank to the ground.
“Ms. Seo Ha!”
Min Seob rushed to steady her.
Only then did Chae Eun finally run over to check on Seo Ha.
“Ms. Seo Ha, are you okay? What on earth just happened? Who was that man?”
“What about Min Jun?”
Seo Ha immediately asked about Min Jun first.
“I put him in the car. He’s probably listening to a folktale right now. Are you hurt anywhere, Ms. Seo Ha?”
“Thank you, Mr. Min Seob. I need to go to Min Jun.”
“I’ll drive you. Ms. Chae Eun, don’t worry.”

Min Seob reassured Chae Eun, then gently took Seo Ha’s arm and helped her up carefully.
Even after seating Seo Ha into his car, Chae Eun stood rooted outside the kindergarten for a long while, unable to go back in.
Only when Min Seob’s car disappeared from view did she finally turn around.
“Mr. Min Seob… is your hand okay?”
“Oh, this is nothing. I used to be an athlete, and I’ve also taken up boxing as a hobby. Honestly, I’m frustrated I only got in one punch—I should’ve beaten that guy harder. A grown man acting this pathetically, stalking someone now? He’s bringing shame to all men. Ms. Seo Ha, I swear I’m not a rough person like that!”
Min Seob deliberately put on a show of bravado. Seo Ha held Min Jun tightly, stroking his smooth, soft hair.
She suddenly felt anxious—was she really stealing Min Jun’s father away from him?
After all, he was still the boy’s father; maybe she was being too harsh.
But if she showed even the slightest softness, she feared they might take her son away.
That family had once insisted she terminate the pregnancy and had even sent her hospital bills.
Taking Min Jun from her would probably be easier for them than snatching candy from a child—thanks to their money and influence.
Seo Ha hugged Min Jun even tighter.
Trembling as though someone might snatch him away at any second, she clutched him with all her strength.
“M-Mom… I can’t breathe…”
“I-I’m sorry.”
Startled by the boy’s strained breathing, Seo Ha quickly loosened her grip.
This child was the one she’d protected with her very life—she couldn’t let them hurt him.
She’d rather be torn apart herself than see him get hurt.
Watching the mother and son through the rearview mirror, Min Seob felt as if a heavy stone had settled on his chest.
Soon, Min Seob’s car pulled up in front of Seo Ha’s villa.
“Ms. Seo Ha, there’s something I’d like to talk about. Min Jun, your teacher needs to have a little chat with Mommy—can you wait alone at home for a bit?”
Min Jun blinked his deep, dark eyes and nodded.
“Mom, I’ll watch Robot Police Police. I’ll talk to Strong Daddy.”
Surprisingly mature, Min Jun ran off toward the house. They heard the sound of the lock opening, followed by the front door closing.
“Ms. Seo Ha.”
“Yes, Mr. Min Seob?”
“Are you alright? That guy didn’t show up at your house, did he?”
“N-No, he didn’t.”
Seo Ha shook her head weakly. Min Seob watched her, opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it again and wiped his damp palms on his pants.
“What did you want to talk about?”
Seo Ha asked him directly, as he kept hesitating. Min Seob tapped his foot lightly on the ground, let out a small sigh, then looked firmly into Seo Ha’s eyes.
“I like you. Both you and Min Jun. I fell for you from the very beginning. I wanted to wait longer and approach you slowly.”
“Mr. Min Seob, as you know, I’m a single mother. You could find someone far better than me. Raising another man’s child isn’t easy.”
“To me, Min Jun isn’t ‘another man’s child.’ I’ve always thought it’d be wonderful to have a son like him—and I’m fully ready to raise him as my own. That biological father of his? He doesn’t seem like a good man at all. Wouldn’t Min Jun be better off with a stepfather who can give him more love than that kind of birth father?”
Min Seob spoke with quiet conviction, striking exactly at Seo Ha’s deepest worries—leaving her momentarily flustered.
But she couldn’t accept Min Seob.
No—she was simply afraid of getting close to anyone else. Not marriage, not even dating.
The memory of Tae Kyung’s mother still haunted her like a nightmare.
“Mr. Min Seob… your parents wouldn’t approve of this, either.”
“That doesn’t matter. I can’t just stand by and watch that so-called father cause trouble. I want to protect both you and Min Jun.”
“You’re only being kind because you feel sorry for me. Please look at this more realistically. I might be far worse and more selfish than you think I am.”
“Ms. Seo Ha, please don’t put yourself down like that. If you were a bad person, does that mean Min Jun has a bad mother? That man’s opinion of you doesn’t matter. To Min Jun and me, you’re the most beautiful, the kindest, and the best person—that much is certain.”
A pained expression crossed Min Seob’s face. His heart ached.
He wanted to tell this gentle woman just how beautiful and precious she truly was—and how tightly she’d been trapping herself. He wanted to become her safe haven.
Yet Seo Ha didn’t yield even an inch.
Instead, she built her thick emotional walls even higher and retreated further inward.
“Mr. Min Seob, I truly appreciate your kindness, but I’m not ready to let anyone into my life. Just taking care of Min Jun alone is already overwhelming for me.”
“Why insist on carrying this burden alone? Let me help share it. Just use me—I don’t mind at all.”
Min Seob pleaded with her, utterly desperate.
But the more earnest he became, the more Seo Ha believed they shouldn’t be together.

Not because he was a bad person—but precisely because he was too good. She wanted him to meet someone even better than her.
Someone who’d be blessed by everyone, someone everyone would envy.
“I’ve left Min Jun alone for too long. I should go.”
Seo Ha turned away coldly. Min Seob, still unable to give up, grabbed her wrist.
“Ms. Seo Ha… is it because you don’t see me as a man?”
His voice was thick with emotion. The slight tremor in his tone conveyed his desperation clearly.
Seo Ha bit her lip hard, concealing her guilt as she replied coldly,
“Yes. I’m sorry.”
Min Seob’s hand went limp and dropped heavily to his side.
[This is the timeline separator]Tae Kyung had stepped back, yet couldn’t bring himself to leave the area around Onnuri Kindergarten. He remained in the driver’s seat, watching over her.
Though the yellow minibus carrying her had long vanished from his view, his feet simply refused to move.
He had to forcefully suppress his growing desire to keep her by his side.
She already had her own family—she even had a child. He couldn’t possibly break that apart.
If he did, he’d be no different from the father he’d always resented and despised.
Tae Kyung closed his eyes, lost in thought for a long while, then took out his phone.
“Are you still in Yangpyeong?”
“Yeah. Kyu Won, have we selected the new kindergarten for our small-scale kindergarten support project?”
“That? We’ve narrowed it down to a few candidates.”
“Then I’ll decide right now. Onnuri Kindergarten in Yangpyeong—let’s go with that one.”
“Hey, where even is that place? You can’t just make arbitrary decisions like this! Shouldn’t there be a proper reason?”
Tae Kyung replied confidently, as if such concerns were trivial.
“Don’t worry about that. There are more than enough valid reasons for them to receive support. I’ll draft the proposal as soon as I get back to Seoul—just make sure everything moves forward as quickly as possible.”
Kyu Won let out an exasperated chuckle. But he knew well enough that once Tae Kyung made up his mind, nothing could stop him—so arguing would be pointless.
