The gravedigger’s house was located not far from the graveyard. It seemed necessary for the house to be close to the graves since he tended to them day and night.

“I thought places with graves would be desolate…”

When one thinks of graveyards, certain images usually come to mind—darkness, gloom, a barren place shrouded in mist. But this place was different. In fact, it felt more like a charming, beautifully arranged park.

“That looks like a tiny castle.”

Among the gravestones were structures that resembled little houses. These small buildings, intricately decorated with marble, appeared almost like miniature versions of ordinary mansions, scaled down tenfold.

“Those are family burial plots. The remains of entire families are kept inside those buildings. People assume graveyards must be grim, but in truth, a graveyard isn’t merely a place where the dead rest—it’s meant to be a dwelling for their souls. That’s why we make it beautiful, so they may rest in peace.”

“It really is lovely. The flowers called ‘gravedigger’s blooms’ add such vibrancy everywhere. The name sounds odd, but they’re truly beautiful flowers.”

“They look even better at night. Strangely enough, they emit light after dark—it feels mystical, as if stars have descended to earth.”

“I’d love to see that someday.”

“If you’d like, feel free to visit anytime. I always tell those curious about these flowers they’re welcome whenever it’s convenient, yet no one has ever actually come here at night just to see them. People avoid graveyards even in daylight—no one thinks to come at night.”

“If I get the chance, I’ll definitely come.”

I replied eagerly, but Ian beside me immediately objected.

“How do you plan to find your way here at night when you’re so bad with directions?”

“I’m bad with directions, not with night vision.”

“Nighttime paths are even more confusing. Besides, can you even find your way here alone?”
