The territory bestowed upon me—or rather, upon Claire—was “North Wolf Lake.” As the name plainly suggests, it needed no further explanation: a vast lake in the north, teeming with packs of wolves.

“Since someone else will manage the estate anyway, I thought it wouldn’t be bad to spend my remaining days there, gathering medicinal herbs and treating the local people. Besides, truly rare medicinal ingredients are abundant there. It really worked out perfectly.”

When I first heard I’d been granted a territory, I simply assumed it would be a place that steadily brought in income.

When I expressed great expectations regarding its revenue, Ileina warned me the amount wouldn’t be as large as I imagined. Although the map showed a sizable land area, over a third of it was occupied by the enormous lake.

Moreover, because of the wolf packs, only a small portion near the manor was actually used for farming.

Ileina grumbled that it was merely a symbolic grant for appearances’ sake, but for me, it was actually welcome news.

North Wolf Lake was paradise for those who worked with medicinal herbs.

Not only did the abundant wetlands yield a variety of herbs, but also a rare plant called “Wolf Cape,” which grew only in wolf droppings—a highly prized medicinal ingredient.

“They say many patients there suffer injuries due to the wolf packs. That’s exactly the kind of place where my skills are needed.”

The more I explained, the more Ian’s face turned ashen.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

“No… but isn’t it too far? It’s at the very northern edge of the Empire.”

“That’s precisely why I’m excited! I’ve always dreamed of traveling. I’ve long wanted to visit places where the medicinal ingredients I work with grow wild. Until now, I couldn’t because of travel restrictions… No, never mind.”

I hastily waved my hand, retracting what I’d just said. Travel restrictions between territories applied only to commoners, not to Claire.

“Until now, I couldn’t freely travel far away because of my family’s worries, but they probably won’t strongly oppose me going to a territory I’ve personally been granted.”
