I sat down in the seat prepared for me next to Ileina. It was close to Her Imperial Majesty the Empress, and sure enough, an easel was placed right in front of me.

‘I really have no confidence in drawing at all.’

Fortunately, for now, the atmosphere was more about casual conversation than drawing. I had briefly learned some sketching through Ileina just to prepare for this gathering, and I was clearly untalented.

Ileina usually assured me that I was good at most things, but now I could see her straining to find something complimentary to say.

Worried that unnecessary stress might affect the baby, I asked her to be honest with me, and she let out a deep sigh.

〈You don’t absolutely have to draw well. But since your color choices aren’t bad, just try painting with the thought of filling a blank sheet with colors.〉

Her advice truly helped. Before, when I tried sketching objects exactly as they appeared, the lines never turned out the way I intended, which stressed me out. But now, simply filling the canvas with colors I liked actually lifted my mood.

There was no real form, but it somehow conveyed a certain mood.

〈This could even become a new art style.〉

Though Ileina earnestly praised me, I doubted I’d ever become a painter, even if I had invented a new style. In truth, there was no real “style”—I’d merely followed Ileina’s instructions and spread paint across the canvas.

At first, I was intrigued by the bright colors, but I quickly grew bored.

As I filled more of the canvas, the mixed colors turned dull and dark, which I disliked. Also, sitting still and just brushing paint quietly made my back and arms ache and left me tired.

I was certain I’d never attend another gathering like this after today. Fortunately, the young noblewomen I was close to also had no interest in artistic pursuits like painting or music.

They’d learned such skills as part of their family upbringing, of course, but none of it was particularly enjoyable.

‘Am I too focused on entertainment?’
