“How did you know about this place?”

After our mutual proposals ended, my wildly racing heart gradually settled into calmness—not because my feelings had cooled, but because, immersed in lingering emotion, I slowly began to take in my surroundings.

When I’d come here holding Ian’s hand, I’d been tipsy and it had been pitch-dark, so I hadn’t even thought to look around and figure out where we were. And when Ian proposed to me, all I could see was his face.

Yet this place felt far too special to simply ignore. The banquet venue for tonight had been situated atop a hill; behind the building, a massive rocky mountain spread out like a backdrop, welcoming guests.

But now, I noticed how seamlessly the building and the mountain blended together.

The structure itself had been built to make maximum use of the natural landscape.

Because Ian and I had ascended via stairs, I’d assumed we were on the rooftop—but now it seemed we’d actually reached the very peak of the hill.

More than the building’s uniqueness, I appreciated the expansive view granted by this elevated spot. Though it was midnight and thus dark, tonight’s sky was unusually cloudless, filled with a huge moon and countless stars.

Their faint glow outlined the entire shape of the city below.

Occasionally, light seeped through windows of some buildings—though not many, of course.

Even in the capital, only nobles or a few wealthy merchants could afford to keep candles lit late into the night.

Had every window been brightly lit, the night view would have been even more dazzling and beautiful—but precisely because only a few buildings were illuminated, it felt akin to starlight in the night sky, and I found that charming in its own way.

It almost felt as if a vast lake stretched out beneath the heavens.

‘It must be beautiful in daylight, too.’
