True to their name, these grave robbers were professionals; they’d dig up a grave swiftly, take what they wanted, and restore the site to its original appearance before vanishing without a trace.

Since it wasn’t feasible to excavate every single grave whenever suspicions arose just to check if anything was missing from the coffins, the gravedigger had no choice but to intensify his patrols.

“But what could possibly be worth stealing from a cemetery?”

“Sometimes people bury rings or necklaces on the deceased, or the family seal alongside the body. Later, if the family needs it back, they’ll hire professional grave robbers to retrieve it—though it happens very rarely.”

“So there’s profit worth the risk, then.”

She said that around the time she’d brewed graveyard flowers into tea and I’d fallen asleep, there was clear evidence the cemetery had indeed been robbed. Unlike previous incidents, where the robbers had meticulously restored the graves to their original state, this time traces were left behind.
