Inhaling deeply, it took a while before she felt calm again, and then she sat down and picked up the paperwork.

The blizzard showed no sign of stopping, so there was a need to hurry.

The timing was unfortunate.

The snow showed no signs of stopping, and the sun was setting.

Visibility was doubly obstructed, and the temperature was dropping terrifyingly.

And a swarm of beasts had approached up to their nose.

Their arrival was sooner than expected.

How challenging this must be.

Elizabeth, scanning the darkening distance through her telescope, let out a long sigh.

“Whew…”

“Is the size larger than you thought?”

Blat, who was beside her, quickly asked, mistaking her sigh for something else.

Elizabeth could barely hide her laughter.

Blat Award worried?

Wasn’t he famously courageous in Barlock territory?

He had not lost his composure even when the castle had collapsed and no knights had died…

“Ah…”

“Huh?”

Perhaps he was just good at hiding his emotions.

Who could have ever imagined that a thick castle would crumble like a sandcastle from one wave.

Though she empathized with Blat internally, her tone remained impassive.

“Please use the word ‘scale.'”

“Liz.”

“It’s Elizabeth.”

“So, Elly?”

“I won’t allow nicknames. Either call me properly or use my title.”

Her attitude was cold as ice, but Blat responded in his typically cheerful tone.

“Quite a long time to be a stranger, huh? Anyway, is it because of the size? Wasn’t it half cleared last time?”

Should I prepare more trebuchets?

His voice was cheerful, but concern remained in his eyes.

Elizabeth set down her telescope and shook her head.

“I think the scale will be as expected. My concern is that the snow isn’t stopping.”

“Why the snow?”

“The beasts may not care, but it will definitely hinder the Duke.”

Upon hearing Elizabeth’s words, the tension in Blat’s brow loosened.

Ah, again.

He didn’t forget to grumble.

“Don’t worry, rain or snow, the Duke won’t be bothered.”

“…The Duke is human, isn’t he?”

“Who says he’s not?”

“Can you really face beasts in a snowstorm?”

“Who says you can’t?”

“Stop joking.”

Whether Blat was jesting by repeating the same words like a parrot, Elizabeth’s eyes hardened.

Faced with the chilling look from Elizabeth, Blat raised both his hands in surrender.

“Liz, don’t be mad. I meant we’ll provide more cover from here, regardless of the weather. We won’t leave you alone.”
“Who could possibly accept that tone of speech?”

“I could.”

Amidst the banter, a soft voice wedged in.

“Your Grace?”

It was Gillian.

Gillian gave a light nod to Elizabeth, who looked at him with surprised eyes.

“So it’s happening soon?”

“Should I install a few more catapults?”

“Are you worried that ‘people’ fighting monsters on a blizzard night might get tired?”

Gillian didn’t hide that he had heard the entire conversation.

“That’s…!”

“More flying stones mean more blind stones, too. I’ll pass. Being hit by a flying stone hurts, you know.”

Elizabeth’s blue eyes trembled at the playful yet firm refusal.

“I appreciate the thought, but the operation will proceed.”

After saying that, Gillian never looked at Elizabeth again.

“Blat, how are the injured from the 7th fortress?”

“From what I can see, everyone is improving. However, most have serious injuries and can’t yet open their eyes, so their conditions are uncertain.”

“Good. Did you move them to the rear?”

“Yes, the blizzard is severe so we’ve only moved them to the 5th fortress.”

“Killian must be making a fuss.”

The conversation that had been flowing was suddenly interrupted at the mention of the 5th fortress’ captain’s name.

Kwaaa!

“It seems our guests have arrived sooner than expected. We should go meet them.”

“But, Your Grace, going beyond the fortress walls in this weather is not a good idea.”

“Elizabeth Swan, Blat Award. Both of you stay on the defensive and command the ranged support.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Despite Elizabeth’s attempts to dissuade him, Gillian strode off, heading down beneath the fortress walls.

“How about thinning their numbers with ranged attacks first?”

Even though Gillian ignored her, Elizabeth couldn’t let go and raised her voice toward his receding figure.

However, all that came back were fading footsteps.

Before long, Gillian was seen stepping out beyond the fortress gates.

All he held in his slender, visible hand as he dashed through the blizzard was a single sword.

Elizabeth’s gaze remained fixated on Gillian, glowing cerulean.

“Stop it.”

“What do you mean?”

Her hand lifted high into the empty air.

At her gesture, the prepped catapults started to tautly pull their ropes.

The wind’s howl and the thick ropes creaking filled the air with a bonechilling noise.

Amidst it all, Elizabeth, colder than the driving blizzard, asked Blat,

“What do you mean?”

Blat shrugged his shoulders toward Elizabeth, who was glaring directly at him.

“Don’t know?”

“Be explicit in what you’re saying.”

“His Grace got married.”

You know that too, don’t you?

My Step-brother Is Obsessed With Me (Female-dominant)

A gentle female protagonist vs pitiful in the early stage, and a sick male protagonist in the later stage

Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.

In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.

As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.

Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.

She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.

“Brother, come home with me.”
