“Madam, it’s time for you to rest.”
Julie, who had long since prepared the bed, called to Bianca.
“Alright, I’ll be there shortly.”
“You must come soon.”
Both the one asking and the one answering knew this was their fifth repetition of the same conversation.
And, just like the other times, that she wouldn’t come to bed immediately.
It was late, and they both knew it was time to sleep.
Yet Bianca’s feet wouldn’t budge from the window.
The window, with curtains slightly drawn, held nothing but impenetrable darkness.
“Madam.”
“Yes, I’m going.”
Bianca, who usually nodded automatically at Julie’s calls, finally tore her gaze from the window.
“Are you worried?”
She didn’t answer.
Gillian had set off and she had immediately sent a bird the next day.
And still, there was no reply.
“Usually, replies don’t come promptly.”
I know.
She understood that he would be too busy to respond, having more loathsome and numerous tasks to tackle than dealing with wyverns. The idea of expecting a reply was ridiculous.
Sending the bird and receiving a swift reply from Gillian last time had been mere coincidences overlapping.
Bianca knew without having to ask.
But was it due to the events of the day?
She couldn’t stand not seeing Gillian.
She yearned for him at this moment.
Wished he would return immediately and hold her.
Whisper stronger words without falter.
“This is your home.”
“My queen.”
She wanted to see his sunlike eyes, which unconditionally supported her in all her decisions, right now, immediately.
She knew it was childish nonsense.
“I must be going mad.”
“What?”
At her murmured selfdeprecation, Julie widened her eyes in surprise.
“It’s just that I don’t feel very mature.”
“What are you talking about, Madam! Given that you faced a wave as soon as you arrived, you’re actually very composed!”
“No.”
I’m not composed.
I’m just acting childish.
Bianca smirked, something she couldn’t share with Julie.
“You don’t have to be careful. It’s not like you wanted to come here.”
“I’ll take you away.”
The man’s words reverberated unpleasantly in her mind.
Here, the place that had taken her in when she had nowhere else to go, the place she had come to of her own accord.
Someone was trying to uproot it.
Though they had swiftly plucked the sprout, she had a bad feeling.
Bianca had a good sense for bad things.
Especially for bad things.
Her heart was throbbing as she searched for Gillian.
Back then, she had been too flustered and had let the man’s words slide. Reflecting on them now, they were incredibly dangerous.
“I’ll take you away.”
The man hadn’t talked about possibilities.
He spoke as if it were a given that he could take her away, if only she wished it.
Such confidence in his tone only comes when it’s backed by ‘ability.’
How many people in Barlock’s domain would have such confidence in their abilities?
It meant he wasn’t just any fool.
Although it could rarely be the boast of a madman, caution wouldn’t hurt.
“Julie, from today on, sleep in this room.”
“What?”
“Sleep here. Either put another bed here, or find another way.”
Bianca’s voice was uncharacteristically stern.
“From today on, sleep here. Don’t leave me.”
It was a tumultuous time, both within and without.
Bianca didn’t want to make people uneasy by talking about the man’s words.
Now was the time to focus on the wave.
“Even though it’s unfortunate for Lord Rafin, please don’t leave my side starting today.”
“What’s going on?”
“Until Gillian returns.”
“…….”
Both their faces stiffened with tension.
Bianca smiled at them.
“I’m lonely.”
What else could she say that wouldn’t sound suspicious?
“It’s absolutely infuriating!”
Celine looked at her bright red palms and exploded.
“You, say that again!”
“What are you talking about?”
The young maid who was drawing water shrank back at the sight of the imposing Sallin.
“What did you just say? What did you give to the territory residents?”
“Uh… ah…”
Finally recalling, the young maid whispered, cupping her hands together.
“Giant Rabbit fur, you mean?”
“Yes! Why do you keep asking? Was there something else you just mentioned? You gave that away at the Duke’s castle? Are you sure about that?”
“Yes.”
The notyetfullygrown maid flinched as Sallin, who towered over her by at least a head, raised his voice.
What did I do wrong?
The colleague who came with me to fetch water had long since thrown down the bucket and run away.
I should have run away too, but my legs gave out in fear, and I couldn’t run.
I ended up alone in the courtyard because of it.
“When did you put it in!”
“Huh?”
“Do I have to keep asking twice?”
Startled by Sallin’s loud yell, the young maid earnestly responded to his questions based on what she knew.
I don’t know why he’s asking about it, as the Duchess herself gave them away.
Wasn’t it the maids who unpacked and distributed the Giant Rabbit furs so densely stacked in the Duke’s castle?
Why would she, a maid herself, question another maid about it? No matter how much she thought about it, it didn’t make sense.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
