‘…I made a mistake.’
Nari, having heard Yi Hyeon’s words, remained silent. Yi Hyeon, nearly embracing Nari, glanced down. He became fearful of lifting his head to see her expression.
For him, rejection was always terrifying. He had honed his speaking skills to ensure no one could refuse him, but now, swept up in a moment of impulse, he was overwhelmed with self-reproach, feeling he had failed.
“Ah, Nari, I’m sorry. It was sudden, and I…”
“Then you.”
Clang! The mug she held dropped. Yi Hyeon fell backward as Nari straddled him, gripping his hands tightly. She looked at him expressionlessly.
“…Nari?”
“You know, if you do that. If I…”
Her eyes, devoid of any glow and darkened, stared straight at him. Nari’s hands, interlocked with his, were tense.
Feeling offended? Yi Hyeon thought, looking at her. Her brows were furrowed tightly.
“If I were to…”
Yi Hyeon, seeing Nari unable to finish her words, slightly smiled.
‘Ah, she’s just anxious.’
Black psychic energy was spreading from behind Nari. Wherever it touched, cracks appeared in the illusion. Nari was emitting illusions without even realizing it.
Illusionists often communicate more comfortably through illusions than words. Despite being trained to sharply guard their minds to distinguish reality from illusion, Nari was so spontaneously emitting psychic energy, a clear sign of how Yi Hyeon’s words had affected her.
He liked these moments when Nari, or Lude, helplessly showed affection towards him. Especially since he had always rejected affection from others.
Who wouldn’t like feeling special to someone? Yi Hyeon always appeared confident and perfect to Nari, but he too was a human prone to anxiety.
Just his methods of displaying anxiety were more cunning than Nari’s.
“It’s okay, Nari. You don’t have to say anything.”
He held her interlocked hands tightly, half-closing his eyes with a smile. His lighthearted voice was a calculated act, knowing Nari was vulnerable to such a tone.
“I’ll always be on your side, no matter what. I have to be.”
“You wouldn’t if you knew what I’m thinking.”
“Nari, I am a cleric. And not a believer.”
Yi Hyeon closed his eyes and laughed. The fluorescent lights flickered and then went out completely, and a rumbling sound of the house collapsing followed.
But it was all an illusion. Yi Hyeon remained unshaken, understanding Nari’s true message. That’s what clerics do. In the dark room, he reassured her with a smiling face.
“You are the direction of my life, how could I betray you?”
The sound ceased. Nari’s black psychic energy gradually receded, and her pitch-black eyes regained their light.
Nari, as if coming to her senses, suddenly let go of his hands and stood up from the sofa, her face flushed with embarrassment. She stuttered,
“Oops, sorry! I didn’t mean to…”
“It’s okay! It was actually my fault for provoking you.”
“Ah! Look at the cracks in the wall. I’ll fix them, just a moment!!”
Nari awkwardly turned her head, waving her hands at the cracks in the wall. The black psychic energy dispersed, revealing a smooth wall again.
It was a situation they both knew was an illusion, but Nari awkwardly tried to exit the situation. Yi Hyeon reassured her slightly.
“I’m really okay! It’s quite common for those who use psychic power to become overwhelmed by anxiety. I’m glad you’re feeling better.”
Sensing it was time to maintain a professional distance, Yi Hyeon switched to a more formal demeanor. Nari, who craved affection from others yet feared deep emotional connections, understood this change.
“……Yeah, thanks.”
Nari finally seemed relieved, taking a deep breath. She gathered the scattered illusions in the house and fiddled with her hair.
“I guess my psychic power is a bit strong, so when I feel anxious or tired, I sometimes get overwhelmed by it.”
“I’ll keep that in mind! You must have been really tired this time, right?”
“Maybe…”
Nari brushed her face with her hands, while Yi Hyeon also fiddled with his hair. A brief silence lingered between them.
As they both thought about how to break the awkward atmosphere,
[Answer the phone. This call will explode if not answered within 3 seconds. 3, 2…….]“Ah, just a moment!!”
Yi Hyeon’s phone, left in the living room, rang at the perfect timing. Nari, startled by the unusual ringtone, looked at the phone, then nodded in understanding when she saw ‘Guild Leader’ displayed on the screen.
“Yes, Guild Leader. Yes, I’m at home right now. Yes, Lude has woken up. No, nothing serious, just seemed tired. Yes, yes, ah… should I ask? Oh, okay, understood!”
Yi Hyeon tapped the phone and handed it to Nari. After coughing a few times, Nari imitated Lude’s voice through illusion and took the phone. The Guild Leader’s voice, sounding a bit tired, came through.
“Hello, Guild Leader.”
[Yes, Lude. Good evening. Are you feeling better?]“Yes, thanks to you.”
[What did I do? Just wanted to check on you. Asked Yi Hyeon Hunter to tell you, but he didn’t.]“I just woke up. That’s probably why he didn’t contact you.”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
