Lee Su couldn’t tell whether the pounding heartbeat echoing in her ears belonged to Ji Ho or to herself.

As her racing heart finally began to calm, Lee Su pulled away from Ji Ho’s embrace.

She looked up at Ji Ho with eyes full of shyness.

“I was scared… scared that I might start liking you.”

Lee Su decided to confess honestly.

She would tell him everything—why she’d been avoiding him all this time.

Words she never would’ve had the courage to say if she hadn’t been drinking now flowed calmly from her lips.

“I won’t lie to you anymore. Honestly, I missed you, thought about you, and worried about you. My heart fluttered and pounded whenever I saw you. It was all so new to me, and that made me nervous… and scared. I tried so hard not to let you affect me.”

Ji Ho nodded gently, as if urging her to keep going.

“I can’t tell you everything, but I know better than anyone how hard it is to get hurt by someone precious. Knowing exactly how painful that feels, I wanted to avoid it if I could. I was afraid that if I started liking you, I’d end up getting hurt and suffer later. I thought it’d be better to do nothing at all than risk that.”

Lee Su lowered her gaze as she spoke.

“I’ve been endlessly grateful to you, and I know you’re a good person, but I didn’t have the confidence to accept my own feelings and meet you halfway. It’s true—I found you overwhelming, and also…”

She spoke calmly.

“Somehow, I had this feeling that when it came time to part ways, you’d just turn away coolly, as if nothing had happened… If I started liking you and suddenly faced that moment one day, I knew I’d be absolutely crushed. So I tried not to like you…”

As she finished, Lee Su gave an embarrassed little laugh.
