Even with her eyes closed, the sensation of a soft brush sweeping across her cheek was vividly clear.

Reacting reflexively to the tickling feeling by trying to open her eyes, she was immediately met with a stern voice.

“No, Miss. Just a little longer, please.”

At Bethany’s words, the maids’ soft giggles could be faintly heard. Olivia smiled slightly in response to their gentle laughter and then deliberately coaxed,

“If it’s my own face anyway, can’t I even look at it?”

Olivia chuckled again at the confident tone. It was still her own face, after all. Yet Bethany spoke as though an extraordinary transformation were about to happen.

Then again, if it weren’t for Bethany, she wouldn’t have been fussing over her hair or applying light makeup on a night with no banquet.

“No! With so many different jewels available, you’re only trying on ten rings?”

Just the thought of wearing rings on all ten fingers felt overwhelming, yet Bethany spoke as if it were absurdly insufficient, causing Olivia to widen her already large eyes even further.

Edwin’s reaction—clearly having never considered such a thing—was amusing, though that was beside the point. Before Olivia could say anything, Bethany sharply raised her index finger.

“Of course you must try on at least a tiara, basic earrings, and a necklace!”

Bethany looked so resolute that Olivia suddenly recalled rumors about the northern mage.

The rumors claimed that mage was unwaveringly decisive and as upright as a straight bamboo—but whenever Olivia saw Bethany, she always thought those tales were exaggerated. After all, Bethany was always gentle and warm.
