No sooner had the count finished speaking than the imperial princess let out a soft laugh. The atmosphere in the reception room grew unbearably tense, as if ready to burst.

Yet the count did not regret his words. He had merely stated the facts as calmly as possible, barely suppressing the anger boiling within him.

Knowing he had taken leave due to his wife’s illness, she had summoned him anyway—so he assumed it was truly urgent. That was why he had left his wife, feverish with childbed fever for several days, and come to the palace.

“I told you to find a way, not to declare it impossible.”

Despite her elegant expression, the princess’s voice was domineering. The count felt his chest tighten again.

“That, Count, is your concern to resolve.”

She spoke lightly, as though discussing someone else’s problem. At that, Count Yubler finally blurted out the words he’d been holding back.
