Essela stopped walking. The voice coming through the crack in the door was Conrad’s. A maid who saw Essela quickly tried to greet her, but Essela pressed a finger to her lips. Her fingertips trembled.
Her heart pounded. A bad premonition crept over her.
Though she knew she shouldn’t listen, Essela moved closer to the dining room door.
“We must bring Olivia back. Wasn’t she brought into our house for exactly that purpose?”
Through the narrow gap, she could see Conrad’s back.
What did he mean—what purpose had her sister come for?
Anxiety coiled around her entire body, just like the last time she’d attended the imperial princess’s tea party.
“If Essela becomes the crown princess…”
What was this about? Her sister was the crown prince’s fiancée. They loved each other—why was her name being mentioned?
“…She’ll suffer so terribly from the empress’s poison that she’ll wither away and die. I can’t bear to see that.”
At Conrad’s heavy voice, Essela reflexively thought of Olivia.

This chapter just solidified how studip they are. In one breathe they call her stupid and in another they acknowledge how smart and hard working she is
