“…But why such a disappointed face, hmm?”
A gentle voice, as if to console, was directed at Olivia. Olivia shook her head.
“…I’m not disappointed.”
“No way. Your voice is so down.”
“…I’m just a little upset. You should have told me earlier. That you didn’t not attend the conference, but couldn’t.”
Olivia pursed her lips and lowered her head.
Silly Olivia Madelleine. No, silly Olivia.
Edwin must have had a reason for not participating in the conference. Yet she insisted.
The result was the Emperor announcing in front of all the nobles that he disliked Edwin’s participation.
“…Thank you for working hard for me, but don’t do it if Edwin doesn’t want it. This is also what I want.”
Olivia slowly raised her head, looking earnestly into Edwin’s face, sincerely pleading.
Hahaha. A splendid laughter echoed over the garden.
Olivia’s eyes widened. She thought he would be bothered, or even embarrassed, but Edwin looked genuinely pleased as he laughed, his eyes twinkling.
“Edwin.”
“Olivia. My naive lady.”
Edwin called Olivia with a sigh, as if lamenting. Naive. A word no one else would agree with, Edwin used without hesitation.
“What to do with such a tender heart, hmm?”
If Count Etel, who was utterly defeated by that tenderhearted Olivia Madelleine, had heard that, he would have ground his teeth.
“I thought you’d grown up, but at this rate, will it be Olivia who breaks the promise?”
“What are you talking about!”
“I really haven’t attended the conference until now. I’ve decided to participate from now on, persuaded by Olivia.”
“But…”
“The Emperor’s reluctance for my participation is not a matter for Olivia to worry about.”
Edwin, who was speaking without hesitation, suddenly widened his eyes. Olivia had covered his mouth with her hand. Olivia’s eyes turned rabbitlike as she looked around. Fortunately, there were no signs of anyone passing by.
“Edwin! This isn’t a duchy, either,”
Olivia, who was about to nag, stiffened abruptly. The red eyes she encountered were close. It was when an inescapable gaze was intently looking at Olivia.
“Ah!”
The touch of soft lips touched and fell below her palm.
Olivia, startled, pulled her palm away from Edwin. Edwin shrugged his shoulders, smiling playfully.
“How audacious!”
“What does it matter. We are to be married.”
“But still.”
She couldn’t think of anything to retort. Olivia’s face turned as red as a beet.
Edwin, who had been greedily looking at her face, changed his expression the moment their eyes met. He then raised his palm in a sign of surrender.
“Surrender. I’ll call the carriage quickly before I get scolded.”
Turning to look for the carriage, Edwin seemed to suddenly remember Olivia.
“But, Olivia.”
“Yes?”
With her palm covering her chest, Olivia answered coolly. Edwin’s eyes softened at her innocent look.
“…Do you know what a kiss on the palm means?”
“Ah, really!”
Olivia finally turned away. Only when the sound of Edwin’s laughter was far away did Olivia cautiously look back. Edwin was gone.
Only then did Olivia sigh softly.
The breeze that tickled her cheek was cool, thankfully.
Olivia looked down at her palm. The center of her palm, where Edwin’s lips had touched just moments before, felt hot.
“…Is there even a meaning to a kiss for each part of the body?”
Embarrassed by her petulant words, Olivia’s lips slowly curved upward.
Who would have known that her last memory in the oppressive palace would be this sweet?
What would it be like to go to Vicander? Would the people there welcome me? Would they not?
Despite the looming worry, Olivia now smiled broadly.
“I thought the gossip had grown.”
Edwin will regret telling me that. I, who have grown the gossip, think I can love Vicander sincerely without worrying about a welcome.
Olivia’s mind swelled with happy thoughts. She even remembered things she had forgotten.
The letters from the unknown knight to the mailbox. Even after the war, there were no letters from the knight.
Olivia thought she should send him one more letter.
Not a packaged lie.
It seemed okay to tell the real story of my life at least once to the person who had been my consolation.
I wanted to say thank you, that you were a comfort, and sincerely wish for the knight’s best.
Where did this courage to be so honest come from? I knew the answer without replying.
“Olivia. Let’s go.”
Looking at Edwin, who was smiling in the distance like sunlight, Olivia pressed her chest with her palm.
My expectation, which I thought had all withered, was unknowingly sprouting little by little toward Edwin.
With her chest full, Olivia walked towards Edwin with a bright smile.
With each step Olivia took, the sunlight poured down.
As if to cheer on Olivia’s path ahead.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
