Elijah looked as if he had something more to say to me, but soon left after a brief farewell. I waited until the carriage was out of sight, then immediately reached for my communication orb.

As soon as the connection was established, I quickly spoke.

“Shanques! Where are you?”

[I’m still in the Imperial Palace. What’s the matter?]

“The letter?”

[Yes, I placed it safely.]

“Right, bring it back.”

[Why…? No, never mind. Understood.]

From the other side of the communication orb, I heard Shanques sigh. He likely wanted to protest—something like, ‘What is this, dog training?’—but stopped himself.

I felt a little guilty toward him, but I had no choice. That letter contained yet another request addressed to Elijah.
