Ray retorted with a face full of dissatisfaction. I awkwardly scratched my cheek and turned my gaze away.

He was about the same height as me, and his behavior reminded me so much of a childish younger brother that I’d always assumed he was even younger than me.

“Ah, anyway! That’s not important right now!”

There was another reason I’d come to House Enlin.

“I came here because I received information that the children who went missing from the monastery are being held at the count’s estate. As far as I know, they’re locked up in the basement of this mansion—do you know where it is?”

Ray shook his head.

“No idea. Until now, I’ve been alone. I only managed to get out today because I was lucky. The door that’s always been locked happened to be open for some reason.”

If Ray had known, it might have saved us time, but it wasn’t a big issue either way. The Divine Beast would find them quickly and let me know soon enough.

“Right, anyway, I’m glad I found you first.”

I squeezed Ray’s hand once more firmly. He flinched in surprise but didn’t pull his hand away.

Just then, the communication orb buzzed sharply. I immediately pulled it from my pocket.

[“Miss, I’m ready.”]

“Okay, I’ll find the children quickly and bring them there.”

[“Yes, I’ll be waiting.”]

The communication ended abruptly. Ray stared at me with wide, startled eyes.
