The Ferje family’s ball was over sooner than expected.

While checking the date on the invitation, which had only a few weeks left, I picked up a sandwich from the table.

Normally, it was customary to set the date months in advance, send out invitations, and include the ball’s theme so guests would understand its purpose.

But this Ferje ball was slightly different in meaning from the usual ones.

It was an impulsive party thrown by the Marchioness Ferje, famously fond of parties, to celebrate the union between Leopric and me.

Needless to say, the Marquess Ferje, a moderate noble and a personal acquaintance of my father, enthusiastically endorsed his wife’s idea.

We usually bickered so much—how is it that we always get along so perfectly only at times like these?

“So you’re still living together?”

I chuckled softly, recalling how my father would stare at my mother’s portrait with a weary expression whenever the Marquess Ferje visited.

I muttered, half-complaining, that I never thought being a sword instructor would lead to this kind of torment.

Anyway, I had no choice but to attend this gathering.

“I’ll have to ask Betty to reply that I’ll be attending.”

Just as I finished eating one sandwich and reached for another,

my eyes fell upon a single invitation envelope, unmistakably different from the others among the pile.

Unlike the other houses’ envelopes, which favored elegant, subdued tones, this one was dazzlingly bright pink, adorned with gold leaf and gleaming at first glance.
